I think my heating pad is slowly dying.  I need a new one soon, and will probably look at Wal-Mart, which is where we usually shop.  Does anyone have any specific suggestions ('yes' or 'no') on any certain brand?  Thanks for any input. :-)

THIS is what I use and I can't say enough good things about it. You can have either moist or dry heat, it stays on for a while, and it does get pretty hot (I typically do not go above the second setting). I also love how long it is. I used it just last night because my back, lower back, and hips were hurting, and I needed to get it all in one swipe. I love my Kaz. :-)

Oh, yeah. I have that one, too its great cause I get achey in my shoulders, back, and lower back and this actually can get all my sore spots. It's the best one I've found so far.

The one I bought is big. I just love it. The only thing is most of them have safety timers in them. This one shuts off too quick. It does this so people like me don't get burned. I never follow the rules for not to sleep with it. This one hasn't burned me yet because of the safety timer.

I've noticed many people mention moist heat pads. This might be a stupid question... but i was wondering what the difference is in the way it works to make the heat moist or dry? I use a wheat pack that is just something you heat in the microwave. I find it useful to an extent but i keep seeing people mention moist heat and was just wondering if there's something else that would work even better?

I've bought three different kinds...microwave moist heat pad, microwave buckwheat & herb kind, and a plug-in electric dry heating pad w/ safety timer.
The microwave ones are great for small areas that need just a quick burst of heat and portable. They cool too quickly for me though. They also can be frozen for ice packs.
The electric one I have is an XL mat. I love it because the heat seems to be evenly distributed and it gets hot fast. Sometimes too hot...

The moist one has some type of gel beads in it that sweat as it cools.

The one that I use actually has a pad that you make damp (not wet) and place it inside the cover, next to the plastic (rubber?) part of the pad. As the pad heats up, it makes the heat moist. To me, it seems to penetrate better than just dry heat. I usually use it when I have a really sore back or if I have bronchitis or pneumonia. It just seems to help things along for me.

I like the microwave moist heat pads...moist heat gives me deep relief...I have an assortment of sizes. At one time, I had a large shoulder wrap pad that was suppose to also offer aromatherapy, the smell made me nauseas.

I'm sitting with moist heat now...seem to need it everyday :)

Great, thanks for the info. I'll go searching for some moist ones then as the one i have is just a wheat bag so i don't think it would count as a moist heat pack and i need something to be more effective on soothing pains i think. Thanks everyone.
