Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has ever been treated for candida overgrowth? I think that I may have it due to long term birth control pill use, & I have been treated frequently with antibiotics for bronchitis and tonsillitis when I was younger. Also I have been treated for lyme 4 times too. I work in the medical field but I don't know what kind of doctor to see about
this. Any thoughts or stories would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Larissa

There is a book called "the yeast connection". It may help you...
I hope that you feel better soon Larissa...

Thanks so much Karen! I am not big on going to doctors and I think I am going to try to do it natural by using herbs and supplements to help kill off the candida. Most of the symptoms for it are very much like the symptoms you have from fibromyalgia so all this time I never thought I could have both. What made me look into this further is I keep getting canker sores in the back of my throat and I have never had them there only on the sides of my my mouth. I hope I will have success in killing off this nasty fungus!

Diet has a lot to do with candida. I had it at one time. Here's a website that might be helpful to you:

Good luck.

Thank you! I did some reading on the diet and I am sure there are some small changes I could make. I am convinced though the reason why I might have it is from all these antibiotics. I guess I am lucky cause it could be worse and I could have c-diff. Have a good day everyone :)

I heard antibiotics can cause it too.
Let us know how it goes.

Twix- I use to have yeast problems for years. Even got in my whole system. I was hospitalized for several days. The best thing to control it's diet. If you know you have problems with yeast and you need antibiotics ask your Dr. for diflucan med. you might of tried it already. I use to get thrush on my mouth. I would use the peroxide tooth paste and it would solve it. The best way is really the looking into the diet. Your probably going to be overwhelm with the books on it.

Wow I am so sorry to hear that. It must have been real bad if you were hospitalized for it. How did you get it?
I don't know for sure if I have candida overgrowth that's why I wanted to know what kind of MD could diagnose me. I have had yeast infections while being on antibiotics and always get an RX for diflucan. I take acidophilus daily but some of the symptoms make me think I have it. Having the fibro I try to stay away from loads of sugar and I don't eat too many breads. Over the years I learned that a lot of foods make my fibro symptoms worse. I have been reading about
the diet but don't you think adding some of the herbs/ supplements will be more effective? I read that garlic and grapefruit seed extract and many other things work well at killing the fungus. Thanks for your responses. It's nice having people to discuss things with who understand!

TwiX- I got my diagnoses from a gasto Dr. I was having trouble with my GI system at the time. He did an EGD and found yeast in my stomach. After that it spread through out my throat , mouth and went systemic. He said it was on the scope when he pulled the scope up from my stomach so it just spread like fire every where. I had problems for years with yeast. Now it has stop and it has been years since I have had any.

Ak Angel, thanks for that info. It's good to know you made a full recovery from it :) I actually work for a gastro doctor. I don't usually ask him about
my medical problems, but I do see some patients get diagnosed with candida that way. GI symptoms is one of my issues too. I just hate going to the doctor because I feel like I have so many issues with this fibro that who really knows if its something else. Also taking meds is not my favorite since I have drug sensitivities. I will think about
going to see a gastro if not maybe I will see my primary.
Thanks again for the feedback!

I have also read many times that garlic is good for this kind of overgrowth. I take Kyolic, an aged garlic, everyday to help keep it in check.
You might want to increase your probiotic intake if you've been on antibiotics.
Also heard that white foods, especially sugar feed Candida and make it worse.

Thanks Woolrow! I am going try try a few different things and see what works. I take acidophilus daily but I don't think it's enough. I will let you know how I make out
