I was wondering if anyone takes Lyrica for Fibro. If so how long did it take for it to work for you if it did work. I saw my doctor today and she wants me on it. We are having to get approval from my insurance before they will pay for it so I do not have it yet. I was reading some of the side effects for it and they kind of scare me so would really like to know how others have done with it.

I take Gabapentin, which is very similar, but cheaper. (When I google them, they're not actually the same drug, but my doctor says they're essentially the same....I think Neurontin is even closer.) So I would assume the side effects would be, too. That said, we are all so different in what works and what we can tolerate...

I notice I'm dizzier since I've been on it, and even spacier (ugh!) but it does help my nerve pain. I just take it in the evening. If I remember right, it started working pretty quickly.

Other people will be along to help you, I'm sure. Have you been directed to Fibro 101? It's very good and worth reading.

I was on Lyrics for about two years. To make a long story short, the side effects were herendous. My doctor assured me they would dissapate, but they did not. Finally went off it and actually felt better. I take Naltrexone, Clonzapem, Cymbalta, & Pyridostigmine. I 've also just been issued a Tens unit which is also helping.

I took Lyrica for a short while, but my stomach couldn't handle it.

Debbie: I'm surprised Neurontin is so similar! I had never heard that before. I have no problems with Neurontin, except it can make me sleepy.

I have been on Neurontin for a few years and it is not doing it for me now. Yet I am scared of the Lyrica. I have been going nuts with nerve pain and muscle spasms. Something has got to work soon. Started on a new muscle relaxer last night. Zanaflex 6 mg. I am to take it 3 times a day but this evening I am still drunk from the one I took last night. I can not afford to take something that makes me so I can not function. My husband can not drive and is in poor health so I have to be able to manage things.

I take 75mg of Lyrica twice a day. It has really been helping me and I have not noticed any side effects on this dose.

I was on gabapentin before that and it really tore me up. Dizzy spells, anxiety attacks, elevated BP & heart rate, heart palpitations, and heart burn, which is why I was switched to Lyrica.

I was off the gabapentin for 4 days and the pain started coming back on day 2. On the 5th day, I started the Lyrica. I would say it took about 4 days for the Lyrica to kick in if I remember correctly.

Everyone is different, it's worth a try.

I have been taking Lyrica since it was first approved for Fibro in 2007. It has been a life saver for me! At first, it was a miracle drug and took almost all the pain away, but then slowly it started to creep back. It still does the job for the most part to take the edge off the pain these days. I take 150mg 3X a day. It takes the ache away which is the worst part I think of Fibro. But, I still get flares, as I am right now and for those I take 100mg of Tramadol, which just takes the edge off. I've never tried a narcotic, kind of scared. I did try to stop the Lyrica for about a year when I was taking Cymbalta, but the Cymbalta did not help like Lyrica so I went back to it. Funny thing is Neurontin doesn't do a thing for me. Also, I never really got any side effects from Lyrica. Not even weight gain like most people report. I guess I've been lucky.

I want to get pregnant probably this summer, so I'm scared since it's a Category C drug. I'll probably not take anything, which is frightening!

I started taking Lyrica 2 weeks ago now and within 2 days of taking it I already had great effects from it. There were some subtle side effects which have now gone - drowsiness mainly. I currently take 75mgs twice a day.

I was also told by my doctor & given Prescription , But i am scared
of the side effects. plus i read it on line , one of the side effects is gaining weight. I have already gained a lot , because of stress and
not eating real food, since i have been diagnoses 26 years ago that i developed f.m.s . I thing i have had some of the symptoms since i had a very bad car accident when i was 12 years old. And i have major depression all my life , which is genetic , IT RUNS IN MY FAMILY.But i am the worst one. I have one question though .
Does any one has major problem with cold ? either in winter or in summer with AC . I sweat and freeze at the same time. This has become my biggest problem.I cant even go to the grocery store.
I have become like a dead walking.Not that my other symptoms
does not bother me. But i can take pain killer , for pain. But no matter how many layer or warm clothe i have on i still get very sick. even in the house i have a scarf on my head which covers my forehead too. But when it is very cold & i can,t cover my face
the next day i feel , my face bones have been crushed by a hammer . Since i have heard that there is no cure for f.m.s i have really lost my will to live. I thought macrobiotic diet will heal me. But there have not been except one testimony from a patient
with f.m.s . But it is too expensive even for 2 weeks going there
and 2 weeks is not enough for me. i have been strip of all my nutrient last 26 years. And all the testimonials are about cancer
and diabetics . unfortunately i am too sick to cook food for myself. I have been praying for God to take me .I do not want to live too long with f.m.s & major depression. Sorry to make you all
depressed. I hope some one find a cure for this insidious illness
that takes over all your body , and still no one believes you are sick . And no sympathy. Just because it does not kill you.

Just got prescribed Lyrics today, like you, saw all of the warning signs and the horrible side effects people have complained about. I usually use askapatient.com to see what the general consensus is and from what I've seen is a nightmare drug...who knows, everyone acts differently to every drug, but I don't know if i want to even try it.
