Hi, Dizzy, and welcome! Unfortunately many of the symptoms you described can be attributed to fibro. The extreme dizziness is rare but I suppose it could happen. Do you have any hearing loss with the dizziness? The reason I ask is there is an illness called Meiner's Disease that will cause dizziness and hearing loss but there are things you can do to help yourself with that illness.
Have you been diagnosed with fibro? If you do have fibro, about the worst thing you can do is lay in bed. If you sit or lay too much you will be stiff as a board and have more pain. The weakness is probably from laying in bed. I know when I've been in the hospital for other problems, I became weak from not using my muscles. You might try using a cane to help with the dizziness so you can do a little walking. Try it out around your home and see how you do. If you do alright then try venturing outside and walk past a few homes and then head back and see how you do.
The rib pain could be something called costochondritis. Many with fibro will get this too. I have it and it comes and goes but when it's flared up, it hurts to breathe.
Pain is the hallmark for fibro and so is fatigue. We also have problems with sleeping, too, so you are not alone there. I put myself on a sleep schedule and that has helped me greatly. Last year I was put on a muscle relaxer and that made a significant difference in my pain as well as sleep. I now wake up once to use the bathroom. Before the muscle relaxer, I was up 4-5 times a night because the pain woke me up plus I could be asleep and my eyes would pop open and there I was...awake again. That isn't happening as much since I started the muscle relaxer.
Other things I do for pain is take ibuprofen with food, extra strength Tylenol, malic acid/magnesium and vitamin D3 supplements. Along with this I do daily stretching exercises, I walk or swim daily, and I pace myself when doing things. I don't take naps and I don't sit for long periods of time. If I keep moving, then resting, then moving again, I do far better in the pain and fatigue department.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. I see Karen has already directed you there and it really is a good compilation of info about fibro. Good starting links for you would be the ones called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. The first links are from a doctor that explains what they think may be causing this illness and it sure makes sense to me. There also are links about the supplements I mentioned and how they work in the body and also a link about costochondritis. You can see it that sounds like what you are experincing. All in all, there is a ton of info there and it could help allay your fear and also get you moving again....something I feel is very important. That has worked for me so well.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
