Do your finger nails hurt?

Hello..........  :-)

I've had this b/4, but I thought I would throw this out to you guys.  Do your finger nails hurt with the slightest pressure, like typing, tapping the table or something.  Mine have been buggin' me for at least a week now. smhair

While I'm here at work it is so noticeable of course.  Duh, I spend a majority of my day on the keyboard.  I keep my nails trimmed, filed down....No acrylics for me. tongue   Ya, know my hands were tingling yesterday, hmmm...connection? rolleyes

Do you mean your actual fingernails, or fingertips? My fingertips sting off and on, sometimes they feel like I've been electricuted, but I 'm not sure about the nails, of course with fibro all is up for grabs.

Hey Baloo,

Boy, your finger tips sound painful! I get tingling pain throughout my hands once in awhile, but they do ache almost all the time(sore to make a fist). I guess what I mean about my finger nails is that the pressure that is applied when typing/tapping is like driving my finger nail (like a sharp object) into my fingers.

Hi Lori & friends,

Are your fingertips alittle discolored... like they aren't getting enough circulation?  There's a common ailment called Raynaud's phenomenon.  You might want to look it up in a Google Search.  I have it and it causes sensitivity to the hands, tingling and poor circulation.  You have to be really careful that your hands don't get too cold. Its one of the many joys of Fibro, an actual symptom.  Yay!

Oh yeah.. almost forgot.. you can get it in your feet too!

Binki my finger nails are the only thing on my hands that don't hurt. smilewinkgrin

Hi.

Mine feel "bruised" with the slightest pressure.  I thought it was just me.  Also they have started "receeding" (sp) and I was told that it is not a fungus so I have no idea.  But it gets pretty painful.  Hope yours feels better soon, I've been dealing with mine for quite a while now cry .

I have this, too! Just like Michelle said, they feel bruised with pressure. Sometimes it's worse than other times..I have no idea what causes it, but I definitely know whata you're talking about!

Michelle and Danielle, Thank you, Thank you! Its so nice to know your not the only one with some "odd" symptoms.

I just don't think Raynauds is what I have going on, its more of the bruised sensation like Michelle and Danielle described. Raynauds sounds REALLY painful.

Patti thanks for lookin' out for us. My fingers are/don't get discolored. They may get real cold at times, but at least not to that extreme, as of yet(crossing fingers).

Yes very odd,finger nails and toe nails hurt when touched or cut,plus on everyfinger tip it feels like pulces have any of you ladys have that,also the feeling of hot neddles going through your hands like pins and neddles but alot worse,also electric feelings,and when you try to tighten your fist it feels very weak and itchy,have you ladys got that? as would love to know this,thanks XX

This wasn't a very common one for me, but I might have had something similar a few X's.
Technically of course, it would be your "nail beds" that were hurting, as the nails themselves do not have nerves.

I know this doesn't make it hurt any less :(

Thanks fishchris,but i dident notice that was years ago ladies were talking re this,i have a terrible habit doing this will have to check the dates from now onthanks anyway

My whole hand hurts including the fingers but not the nails, when i tighten my fist or try to turn a key it really hurts and the muscles feel very weak. However, the doctor had me press his fingers as hard as I can and it hurt but was a strong grip. He said there is a difference bet feeling that the muscles r weak and them being actually weak. When u just feel that,the muscles can still perform in spite of ur feeling, when they r really weak they can't perform however hard u try.

My fingernail beds are one of the few places that don't actually hurt, but I do experience the painful pins and needles electric feelings.

Pelagicdancer yes have the electric feelings non stop,and when we feel pins & needles its not normal,its like hot needles going right through our hands,bet you have that also,the last week tho, when i wash my hands with warm or cold water,they feel as if there getting burnt,you will prob have that to,and the feeling the hands are so hot now and weaker,gosh you just think what is going on inside our hands also the rest of the body,hope everyone are fine XX

Yeah, extreme sensitivity to temperature is very common with fibro. Cold bothers me the most, but I notice abnormal reactions to heat too. For example I can't do dishes with hot water that someone else would find bearable, or I can't drink tea or soup at temperatures that non-fibro people have no problem with, it really feels like it's burning my mouth. But lately my tongue just feels burnt all the time, regardless of temperature. I think all this stuff is related to some kind of malfunctioning nervous system, especially when zaps or parethesia (sensations of tickling, tingling, burning, pricking, or numbness, pins and needles, etc) happen without any stimulus. Hang in there <3

I get the pin and needles under my nails..and I got edema..im flush out my kidneys maybe its that..my relative has needles and pins going through his hands.he has neurpathy...

my relative has burning,pricking,feels like needles and pins,in his hands he has neurpathy..he has it in his feet too can spread to your arms and legs.....I got something different..edema and pin and needles feeling under my nails..

Mostly have just a constant ache/bruised feeling throughout my hands. And they're constantly cold to the touch. Only issue with my nails is that I can NOT stand the feeling of a nail file. It's not so much pain as it's extremely irky. Gives me the bad chills/slightly nauseated feeling just thinking about it, so I'll stop now.

This is a really old post but I found it while researching this very thing tonight. I have acrylic nails and when they come at me with that electric drill, I just about jump out of my chair. I have to tell them to go very, VERY gently otherwise I can never stand it. They look at me like I'm a weirdo, so I think most people are fine with it, and it's just me, and it's just my fibro. I also noticed that it's much worse now that winter is here and my fibro is in full force flare everyday. I had my nails put on over the summer and I go every 2 or 3 weeks for maintenance on them and I can handle it in nice weather, but now that winter is here, I'm not gonna be able to keep them on, I can see that already. So yeah, to the OP, I do have a problem with overly sensitive nail beds, and I do think this is fibro related. :(

Hi, I'm new here. I have an unusual problem, my fingernails hurt as if they have been hit by a hammer. I do have numbness in my hands and fingers. While reading this forum topic a better identification would be my "nailbeds" hurt, not my fingertips but the area under my nails are so painful. There is no discoloration or ridges, just constant pain. Has anyone found a solution that helps or a diagnosis?

For several years now, I have noticed this same symptom. The best I can describe it is a pain under the finger nails. It appears to start for no reason, and lasts for varying amounts of time. It seems to affect all of the finger nails. At times it is an ache, and at times it is a stabbing pain. There is no discoloration or unusual appearance when they are hurting.
