How is your handwriting?

My bad handwriting is simply due to using the computer or smartphone more than I use a pen/paper. :) Those of us in the "tween" years of technology grew up without computers and even had manual typewriters so would avoid that! HAHA.....So I used to write much better as it was something I would do all the time for communication.

I only use a pen/paper maybe once or less a day now.

Snowbunny21: Maybe that's it! I grew up without computers also, and used the good ol' manual typewriters. I had much better handwriting in elementary school. I remember those neat loops and smooth lines. Not so anymore. :(

Myself 09: Oh yes--I definitely need one of those signs--love it! :)

I took shorthand in high school and loved it. Maybe I should have stayed with that, rather than handwriting?? :)

Thanks, maitland. Hope your hands are better. Mine always seem to be a little "off" and I think that's the problem. I just don't have the flexibility anymore. Guess I'll keep working on that.

Yes, it's too bad more people don't understand fibro and can't relate. Hope you are fine, also!

My handwriting is ok for about a line or two, then it goes downhill rapidly. My teachers would comment on my writing all the time. Later, I became a teacher and I tried to show some mercy to my students. ;)

I generally print if I want someone to understand what I'm writing. If I write a 'quick' birthday card or such, I can usually manage to be 'clear'. If it requires a letter, I have to type it - even if it's a personal letter. I don't like to write letters that way, but it's the best I can do.

My hand/fingers start to cramp very quickly, and my hand gets jerky. I can't control it. There are times when I'm typing that my hands spasm. I will hit the key for 1 letter and I find that I have a row of 'eeeeeeeeee's'

Yesterday, I wrote out a card for my sister. I was printing her name on the envelope and screwed up the last letter of her first name. It was the letter 'A', and I do know how to make an 'A'.  lol   My hand has a mind of its' own.

I think if I just slow down a bit, and would take the time, I could have more legible writing. Of course, it seems too often I'm writing 'on the fly.' But I'm relieved to know it's not just me.

Alice: Like you, I start out okay, too, but then it goes downhill. We have good intentions, I think. :)

Joy: Glad you brought up hand strength. I don't think I've lost strength, but I think maybe I'm gripping too hard on the pen or pencil. I have to remind myself: more flexibility! Easier said than done, I guess.

You're so right, Debbie: it's a drag, alright. I'll just keep on keepin' on.....(BTW: my hair isn't wavy like yours, it's stick straight, but still likes to stick up at times. I guess we fibromites have stubborn bodies just about everywhere. :))

My handwriting is worse now because of pinched nerves in cervical spine.

My handwriting has always been bad, but I've lost a good bit of dexterity and strength and am more clumsy now. I just found my problem and will be getting treatment soon.

Some symptoms are tingling, pain in wrist and elbow, shoulder pain, some neck pain, shaky hands...

You just think what is going on inside of us, as these feelings we have are very very odd that we feel daily,my daughter had to wrap my grandons presents up earlier,as my hands just now feel terrible,spsams,sore finger tips ,numb,moving,what gets me down is the pulses on each tips of my fingers, also feeling of getting burnt when running under cold water,have any of you went to chinese medicine doctors?hope ALL you laddies are fine XX

applevenus: My handwriting at times is a little smaller, but not always. I think I tend to scribble more if in a hurry. If I'm writing a letter or note, my letters are not as small. Sometimes it looks like chicken scratch! :(

Chris, I'm a natural lefty too. In grade school, the nuns would try to make a right hander out of me...but I wouldn't budge. I recieved an A in pensmanship all through grade school.

I'm still told my handwriting is nice. Arthritis doesn't allow me to write long letters anymore. Using a good pen that glides makes it easier. My fingers end up with pressure marks from holding a pen...same thing with using a fork. :)

Joy, wow, that's cool! Can you still do it?

My older daughter (who's also a lefty), can play the piano upside-down and backwards. She squats, facing away from it, leans backwards towards it with her arms crossed, and actually plays a few simple songs that way. She's now 27 and has done this since she was fairly young. Why? - how? - it's beyond me :)

And her handwriting is so pretty and precise teachers have asked her if she's used a font on some papers for school.

AB, I can still do it with ease. Just for fun today I wrote my name upside-down with my right hand. It looked exactly like my normal left-hand right side up. LOL!

Mrsbugzy, I'm the only lefty in my family from my father down to the youngest great grandchild. My brother is the only green eyed one in a sea of blue eyes in our family. (No, same mother and father)
