Hello, I'm new here. Does anyone have any recommendations for a bed, a reclining sofa, and an office chair for me? I suffer from chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, sciatica, arthritis in neck and all the way down my spine, diabetes type 2, diabetic neuropathy in legs and feet, IBS, scoliosis and a host of other things. I'm trying to make my home friendly. Right now, it feels like everything in here is poised to attack. rolleyes
By the way, I commend you all for your courage and willingness to go online in this forum and seek answers and ways to ease your pain. For so long, I've just kept it to myself and that hasn't helped me at all. wink

Hi, Mia, and welcome! For my bed I have a pillow top mattress with a foam egg crate on top of that and a fiber bed on top of the egg crate. That gives me the support I need cor my back and helps with my Princess and the Pea Syndrome. turn

I prefer chairs that have me sitting straight up. This helps my back a lot. I put pillows behind my back and I have one of those Forever Comfy cushions you can get in drug stores and I do like that. I actually have that cushion on top of a memory foam pillow on my desk chair and a pillow behind my back.

Just wondering.....have you ever been checked for ankylosing spondylitis? I have scoliosis and was having such bad back pain. It was getting progressively worse and fibro isn't a progressive illness so I headed to a great rheumatologist. He discovered this. It's an inflammatory disease of the entire spine, including the neck, and is similar in ways to rheumatoid arthritis. I am on ibuprofen and a muscle relaxer and it has helped with my pain significantly. It's something to ask about next time.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there...even things that can help you.

I have a sleep by number bed I dearly love as well as one of their pillows. I have not been able to sleep with a pillow in 7 years until I found this one. I used a small neck pillow until then.

I tried a pillow top mattress cover before my sleep by number. It was a disaster, I could hardly walk after sleeping on it. It had to go.

I have s recliner I use during the day with pillows for support.

I have a Comforpedic mattress. I laid on many mattresses at a large furniture store and my mattress was more comfortable than the temperpedic.

I have a recliner with the electric option to raise and lower the foot rest. It's great. I had to test sit many recliners to find the right one.

I second the Comforpedic mattress if you have the money and if you aren't hot natured. I personally think it's better than a sleep number bed. The warmth from your body keeps it comfortable in the winter; in the summer, you might sweat more during the night. This is only if you are hot natured. A cold natured person would probably love it even more.

And I also second the sleep number PILLOW. It's expensive (I think we paid $129 each for ours in 2004), but it's well worth it. It's the most comfortable pillow I've ever used. It has three levels for sleeping: one for people who sleep on their sides, one for people who sleep on their back, and then if you flip the pillow over, it's more comfortable for people who sleep on their stomach. It sure helped my neck and shoulder pain a lot.

Hi, Mia.

As you can see, we're all different! (figures, huh?) I have a firm mattress but it's got sort of a pillow-top on it. For a pillow, I love my buckwheat one. I wish it was lighter to carry around.... I got it from a chiropractor years ago for $40, I think.

It is so important to have comfortable furniture. We have a cabin we inherited from my parents, and all the stuff is 30 -50 years old! Well, guess who can't sleep up there?! My family says they understand, but I know they really don't. They just think I don't like the mountains....sigh.

I've got the Endurance by Serta. It's soft and firm in just the right places.
I tried many types myself 20 different types over months of hunting.

I'm still hunting for the perfect pillow. Right now I've got a memory foam pillow by Serta. Not fully happy but it's okay.

My recliner is a Lazy Boy. It's perfect for taking naps in and is supportive enough for my lower back.
