Fighting fibro with humor

my husband says stuff like that...does take the edge off everything :o)

I get hot flashes also, really annoys me ....feel like im menopausal and im only 34 !

I'm 39 and I get at least two hot flashes a day! It seems to be getting worse but I'll take those over the stiffness and fatigue any day!

Before I knew I had fibro I just thought it was my anxiety. Now I sleep with the fan on all night.

Humor does help!

We like to watch old TV shows (I Love Lucy, Leave It To Beaver, The Brady Bunch, etc.) and also old movies.  Have collected them the past several years, mostly at Wal-Mart, where they are fairly inexpensive.

And, of course, Don Knotts on "Andy Griffith" was hysterically funny. I liked his "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" and "The Reluctant Astronaut" movies, too. The "Ma and Pa Kettle" movies are great, as are Abbott and Costello. Oldies but goodies, and who doesn't need a good laugh? :)

Humor is a major coping factor for me. I try to keep a sense of humor about everything. I may have an odd sense of humor, though. My parents especially never seem to get it.

My kids are at such great ages because they are developing their own sense of humor. We crack each other up all the time.
I make up silly songs for them and they tell the cutest jokes.

Yea LIZ, I hope some of the stuff helps you. It isn't always the same for everybody. And different things work on different people. Evening Primrose helps some people, and I tried an herb called Don Quai for awhile. I guess in the end, I just lived with it and dressed in layers. lol...

This is an awesome thread. I am happy to see so many people who use humor in their lives. I guess it is all that is left in the end. And it works.

I wish I had a funny story too, but I don't. I enjoy reading what everybody else writes. Wizzulekeake, okay... LOL...

Also love the old timey clean tv shows like those already listed & old movies. I appreciate being able to watch a show with children or family with no insinuations or risque humor.. I cringe when the program is fine but commercials are unsuitable (LOGO channel shows Bewitched but the commercials ...!!)

'Sunday Morning' is program I look forward to for uplifting news.

For myself alone I also like MASH & some of the British comedies are a hoot!
Will freely admit I am addicted to NCIS - some for the mystery part of it but is interjected w/ humor between the characters personalities that leaves me smiling.

Recently found yahoo comics by accident (duh. What can I say ? Lol )

Rarely watch unrecorded news as I gotta zip thru most of it.. 'mans inhumanity to man' is too depressing but that is pre-fibro also .

Your list was great - I found humor in myself after I read it..

I remember the days when I all I was concerned about was:
how I looked -
Mainly my make-up & hair,
wearing perfume so I smelled oh so wonderful,
did I shave my legs last nite?
how do I look in these pants (back in those early days I had some tailored to fit perfectly + monogramed !)

Now my list of daily required meds, supplements & activities etc reads much like yours.. no wonder my younger generation cannot relate to what I need !!
(I do not think I even HAVE any make-up !!)

Golden Girls Are a favorite of mine also... from when they were first shown. Glad you discovered it!

Also Designing Women.. the characters developed into not-just-comedic ones & serious issues like domestic abuse, AIDS, beautiful Suzanne's real life yoyo weight were incorporated.

Being long time single I would love to find some friends &/or housemates that I could get along with, that I could trust..

I love MASH! Can't see an Alan Alda movie without checking it out. I love Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, and Dan Akroyd. I think I've seen The Three Amigos a million times. Lol

We're a very musical family. My mom sang in a band when I was a small kid and I can remember being 3 and her having me "perform" for her friends. The kids and I love to make up silly songs for each other. The kids come up with some very funny songs. They love to just dance and sing and nothing gets me laughing like their dance episodes.

My son's favorite thing right now is when I make the cats "talk" to him. They have specific voices I do for them and he just rolls on the floor when I start doing their voices and talking about cat problems like how one of them keeps trying to lure birds in through the window.

All in all, I'd say laughter is a huge deal in our home. At my worst physically I manage to keep a sense of humor. It keeps me feeling human.

I do like a sense of humor but I tend to lean more toward Jason Bateman. Lol

How boring would a humorless spouse be? Someone has to laugh at my jokes or I'd probably start hanging out in front of Walmart, telling jokes to strangers as they walk by.

Drop Dead Diva season 5 starts Sunday !! Some consider Jane's size a disability but , once she adjusted, she 'owned it'. For me is humor with attitude & entertaining.

I checked on demand & saw season 4 so think I will be trying to fit in a marathon !!

Some of us have body size changes as radical as Jane without the dying part..
taking meds, being forced to change how we exercise, etc.

I watched conversations on a 'news' program yesterday re: recent decision to define obesity as a disease..

over & over I heard "just change diet & exercise" hmm Al Roker had some sort of gastric bypass SURGERY to assist his weight loss, didn't he? So did several other celebrities & public figures... Is not so simple as that for every one.

I say Hurrah for everyone who does their best to be healthy !!
