Try to get it above 30 with supplementation and sunshine (if possible), but according to my own research and in speaking to my rheumatologist..today even, there is very little evidence that low vitamin D levels have any significant impact in your fibromyalgia pain. There seems to be way too much hype around Vitamin D..so I wouldn't worry too much about
it. Oh and regular cod fish liver oil is another good way to get more dietary vitamin D.

Low levels of vitiamin D can cause a malabsorsion of calcium. Your bones need calcium to prevent ostioporosis. Also your heart uses calcium to help it beat.
My D was almost rock bottom (8) last year. I'm on 50,000 iud 2x a week.

Debsoap- wow, your vitamin D is very low. Yes, vitamin D is very important. It has many functions. You can look it up on line. A normal vitamin D is 50-70. Most fibromites vitamin D is low. The supplements you are probably going to need come in large units. I take 25,000 units weekly. I know others that take more. It's very important you monitor your level once your on vitamin D. Mine got too high and caused me a kidney stone and then surgery. I was never told to recheck it. You can read how important vitamin D is. As a women especially with our bones. It has been proven that low vitamin D can cause depression also.
Just go in a pharmacy and ask about
the large supplements of vitamin D. The regular calcium and small units of vitamin D is not going to help you too much. Did your Dr. tell how much to take? I just got mine checked and it's low. I have been in so much sunshine this summer and taking large units of vitamin D. So we increased the amount.

Mine was around that number several years ago so I now take 5,500 IU of D3 a day. I am now over 30 but want it to be higher. Why settle for barely non-deficient.

Did you feel really exhausted? I guess it could be the Anemia that's causing that or maybe a combination of the two.

Vitamin D3 deficiency can cause fatigue. I also take malic acid/magnesium supplements and these help with fatigue, too. You can read about
these and vitamin D3 supplements and how they work in the body in Fibro 101.

Don't wait for your doc to tell you what to do. Go ahead and start taking a good D supplement. Also, looks like you could use an iron supplement.
Are you starting to go through perimenopause and losing lots of blood with your periods?
Just as an aside.........My daughter is a VEGAN, and she started having horrible depression and dizziness. I had her get a vitamin D level drawn and it was something like 9!! She started taking supplements, and soon felt alot better.
Unfortunately, I think alot of docs don't even consider low vitamin/mineral levels as a possibility. That kind of thinking drives me nuts.

Deb, I don't mention this a lot but have you been checked for diabetes? Many people are diabetic and don't know it. I am diabetic and when my blood sugar is elevated, I'm VERY tired...can hardly keep my eyes
open. A simple blood test can tell your doctor if you are diabetic. Just a thought....
I'm glad you like the script
ure. This has helped me with all my health issues because fear definitely can be involved.

Hi, Junnie! I don't think we've met! I'm glad you got your vitamin D under control. I'm aiming to be around 50-60 myself. I take 5,500 IU a day but that includes what is in my calcium and multiple vitamin, too. Vitamin D is very important.
If you haven't already, be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There is lots of good info there about
fibro and you will learn a lot.

Sherrine, no they haven't checked that but he mentioned it in the office.
CathyA... Yes I think so doc said he thought that I am peri menopausal. I have been doing some research on Vit D supplements and am trying to make up my mind on what to try. Soooo much info! I want to take a good one so I am sure to be getting what it says it offers. Same with the iron I am very sensitive to things and am cautious about
jumping out there and trying just any thing :(

My vitamin D level was low (not sure of the number), and I am iron deficient, according to blood taken at the end of May. After a few weeks (since late June) on vitamin D and iron supplements (and some sunshine every day), there is a measurable difference in my fatigue levels. It has not, however, made any difference in the pain. I still have bad days, I still have stress & hormone triggers that make for those bad days. With a little more energy, it's a little easier to manage, but it definitely didn't make the pain cease altogether.
I hope you can get your levels settled!

Vitamin D needs to be near the far end of the reference ranges. Taking high quality Vit D in megadoses and then retesting in a few months is a very good start.
Look up Dr Mercola and what he says about
VitaminD, and then go from there with doing more research.

Had my dr apt today and he put me on Vitamin D3 drops 8,000 IU per day to start with. He also gave me a script
for an Iron supplement called Hematogen anyone taking it? I am very anemic and he wants to get the numbers in at least a normal range. He said that all this could be making my symptoms worse and my hormones acting up! I hope to feel better soon!
