Social Security Disablity

I have been dx with Fibromyalgia, Raynolds Phenom, Thoracic Outlook Syndrome, Recent Anxiety Disorder which was given to me by the State examiner, and Depression, Chronic fatigue, and some neck issue. I have applied for disability and should hear in about 4 weeks with the approval or denial. With all these symptoms what are my chances of getting it the first time with my lawyer. I have been told by my arthritis doctor and vascular syrgon that I will never work a physical job again. I was in nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 13 years.

Jacklyn- you have a lawyer for your first round trying for disabiity? I didn't know they work with you on the first attempt. Here in Alaska they don't want to talk to you unless you already tried. It all depends how long you been suffering depression and the documentation. The other diagnoses are not a very strong case. Maybe having a lawyer will make a great case. Everybody I talked with that has a lawyer got their disability. I think I got mine mostly by my depression. I had many diagnoses, but it didn't seem to matter too much. I did get my disability on my own.


Good luck on getting it. It sure has given my life back to me. I don't have to get upset when I don't sleep anymore. I just tell myself at least you can sleep in.

This is my second go round. I went all the way to an ALJ,and was denied my lawyer suggested I file again. My doc had just diagnosed with me fibro at that point and I did not have much documentation. In addition, I have denegerative disc disease, two brain injuries, Mild cognitive impairment, and major depression. They ignore the depression because I have so much trouble with antidepressants. I prefer to take a natural one that works, and they call it a vitamin. :( Despite all of these ailments I was unable to get approval. I tend to believe the mindset is that our disease is not "real" or all in our head. I wish there was a way to wipe it out of my "mind".

I am now waiting for an Administrative law judge for the second time. It is my hope this time is better. It should take 11 months to see a judge, and at that point it will be nearly four years since I initially filed. Good luck, the backlog and number of claims that may not be valid are really weighing against those of us who are truly too disabled to work.

Absolutely untrue that SSA has a secret redbook. SSA has a Blue Book of accepted disabilities and it is available on their website. I am related to a SS adjudicator.
