OT - worried about hubby

I find myself saying more and more all the time: you just never know, when you wake up in the morning, what's going to be waiting for you.

My hubby has Diverticulosis, and is suffering with his 2nd bout of Diverticulitis in the past month; he's had only 1 other infection, about 6 years ago.  On Friday, our PCP put him on 2 really heavy-duty antibiotics, and casually mentioned that trying to treat the problem this way would be advisable before considering surgery. 

Surgery?!  I had no idea it could be that serious.  Of course I googled it, and what they would do is remove the diseased part of the colon. 

He isn't one to ponder his physical conditions, or research them, or usually even acknowledge them.  But I can tell this is kind of getting to him....plus, he still doesn't feel well.

This guy is my rock, and to see him this way is really rough.

Debbie, I'm sorry too that your hubby is going through this...it is always hard to watch the people we love suffer.

My Mom had a resection done on her colon back in the 90's due to diverticulosis. She will be 83 next month and still plans to be golfing on the woman's golf league this summer. I watched her suffer prior to her surgery with the infections she would get. The surgery turned out to be a better option for her in the long run. She does have to watch her diet, but she sure has not slowed down much.

Hoping the antibiotics do their magic and give your husband some relief with no recurrence of infection.

Sometimes it is for the best, to remove part of the colon. The diseased part is always susceptible and causes more problems.

Don't panic! Hopefully, you can get hubster to talk....

My sister also tries to control her diverticulosis problem with diet, but every once in a while it will flare up. The last two times, she hurt so bad she had to go to the ER via ambulance, and she was in the hospital for about 5 days the last time. They told her the next time she has a flare, she will have to have surgery. I imagine she will be ready for it if the pain is anything like she had last time.

I hope your hubby gets well soon and can manage it by diet.

Keeping a strict diet is very important. You might have to be his helping hand on this. I hope he feels better soon. Men do not like to be sick. They are always thinking about brining the bread home and no time for sickness.
