Hey guys! I usually hang out on the crohns board but I had a question about savella. Have any of you experienced pregnancy and savella? Im doing very well physically and am considering getting pregnant but I'm very scared of getting off savella. I would rather keep taking it but now I likely will not be able to. Any input here would be appreciated!

Hi, Sickofitall, and welcome. I went to Drugs.com and got the info on Savella and it says that the FDA isn't sure if it could affect your baby if you were to get pregnant. If I were you, I would get off it first. I'm sure your doctor could offer alternatives. I take magnesium malate, vitamin D3 and over the counter pain meds to help with fibro. Do ask your doctor before taking any of this.

Thanks for the info. There actually is an fda registry for savella during pregnancy to track any effects on pregnancy but its not public yet. Yes I know I should be off before trying. I have scheduled multiple dr appts to address these issues. I was just curious to see if anyone had any personal experiences . Thanks again!

Savella hasn't been in use in the USA long enough for there to be solid information on pregnancy, however it has been used in Europe since the late 90's to treat depression. The European drug labels say it should not be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. The generic name is milnacipran if you want to do some research.

I have read some research on the animal studies and it caused fetal death, low birth weight, and delayed development in doses lower than the current human equivalent. I haven't verified the source so I am not sure of the reliability of the animal studies information otherwise I'd link you to it.
