Is anyone taking savella 50mg x 2aday for their pain? My doctor put me on this last week and I'm up to 25 mg twice a day. In the morning about an hour after I've taken it, I feel a little anxiety & want to crawl out of my skin. Is this normal and will it go away because next week I'll be taking 50mg twice a day. I'm taking the second pill right before bed.

Hi Glen!

I've been on savella nearly 5 years for fibro and have been lucky not to have any bad side effects. My rheumy started me off by giving me two, 2-week titration packs. I had a full month to work up to 50mgs 2x daily. I believe that this slower transition helped me. Before I started the savella I had tried cymbalta and had nausea and dizziness problems. My rheumy wanted to make sure I slowly adjusted to savella dosage.

If you have problems, perhaps your rheumy can adjust your dosage. Good luck to you.

On other boards people have had very good luck with the medication from what I have read. Getting through the first month was the hardest but once that pasted they felt good and had increased energy and less pain.
Savella is an SNRI (Serotonin Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) which usually calms people. But everyone's reactions to medications can be different so just be mindful and if you have any concerns contact your doctor right away.

I use this site for side effects but I looked up help for getting this medication, either by samples or coupons to help cut costs. We can try so many different meds trying to find one that works, I think we should get help where ever we can. I would double check on getting a sample from the doctor also if anyone is thinking on trying Savella.

Savella was the first thing I went on for FM, and it helped immediately and significantly. Unfortunately, after about 9 months, it did little to help…kind of stopped working for me. I had few side effects from it. I remember a dry mouth, and coming off I had some dizziness. After that, I tried Cymbalta and had good results for about 6 months, then the same thing…it stopped being effective. My doc said they call it "poop-out syndrome," and is common with SSRI drugs. It was not easy to get off the Cymbalta! My weaning was slow and had side effects such as being dizzy and IBS type activity. That lasted for about 8 weeks after I was completely off!
I now won't go on any more SSRI's. Just not worth it. Its a shame since I have great insurance and my meds were almost completely covered by it. I know many pay $200 a month for these drugs.

Has anyone tried Savella and Cymbalta? I'm currently on Cymbalta for bipolar and I know it helps with the pain. My psych said I could take it but then I talked to someone else and was told that they are both the same and it would just be doubling up on the doze?

My doctor told me that studies show people start having problems when they go to the 50mgs. So he led me up to 25mg twice a day and kept me at that level. But I had vertigo with it, so had to quit it. Loved the med as it really helped with the pain. But I have meniere's so it may have contributed to the virtego.
