What med has been your best one so far for pain?

I'm needing something else for pain. Have been on paxil for years and tramadol for years. The paxil is no longer working and don't want to go on a stronger dose, as 30mg is not working no more. I am weaning down to 20 currentley. The tramadol does help the pain, but makes me sweat way to much. I have an Iliostomy bag now and do not want the sweat to make it come off to soon.

So, the question is, what's your favorite??

I have had pretty good success with Neurontin (gabapentin). My doctor gave me lower-dose pills, so I don't feel overwhelmed by them. They have especially helped with nerve pain.

I found a muscle relaxer at night really helped.

I take Tramadol at night only. I take one if I cannot fall asleep due to pain within 30 min., or if I am going to bed in a great deal of pain and know sleep will be futile. Sometimes I need a second one if it does not help enough…I wait another 30 - 40 min. before taking #2.
I am on Celebrex for arthritis, and I am not sure if it helps the Fibro as well, but between the two I am coping pretty well. I also have started theraputic massage once a month on trigger points in arms. I would go more often, but it is expensive. During the day, my discomfort is just "background noise," as so aptly expressed by one of the moderators of this forum.

I have been on subutex for 4 years. It's very long acting, so I only take 2 tabs daily. They really gave my life back to me. Exercise and staying away from high stress helps too. The vitamin supplements help too

I personally take the strong stuff (oxy/fent patch) and find that meds like benzos really help my nerves calm down during flares.

It's still never enough. /-:

Thanks guys,

Got my appt tomorrow, so the suggestion are nice. I'm going to see about the Gabapentin as that was mentioned a lot in other post. Also the hydro for temporary pain. Some days are better than others. If i'm home and not to active i don't hurt so much. I still do chores, but am not on my feet all day like when I'm at work.

I take tramadol for pain and gabapentin mostly for neuropathy and lorazpan for muscle spasms at night and my new best friend is plain old Benadryl I broke out in hives after nerve block injection in my lower spine (nerve block did not work pain came back in few days) so I had to Benadryl every night I slept better than any other sleeping pills including muscle relaxers I asked dr if it was safe to take Benadryl every night and he said it was better than other pills for sleep plus not groggy in morning also my pain dr believes heavy pain pills and patches make fibro pain worse you have to find best combo each person different

patch/oxy and yes, there are plenty of times when it's not enough, but compared to the alternative....I'll take it. If I didn't have the patches, I honestly don't know where I would be.

morphine and hydrocodone, currently. I have been taking narcotic pain meds since I was a teenager. I am in my 60's now.

I am really not a fan of ssri medication for pain management, because it didn't work for me. I've tried paxil, (with which I had a terrible experience including violent and suicidal tendencies) prozac, (same) pamelor and a bunch of other trial packets. I like the good 'ol fashion stuff.

I took darvocet for years but as I got older it didn't work as well. With what I am prescribed now I can usually take a bit less and function.

Cymbalta has been a life saver. It's my miracle pill for sure! I take oxycodone during flare ups.

I absolutely sing the praises of gabapentin. I take 900mg 2x a day (which works loads better than 600mg 3x/day, oddly) and I can feel a lot more pain and tingling after less than 24 hours without a dose. I also take 60 mg daily of fluoxetine, and between the two I get 95% pain relief most of the time.
