Which weather patterns are the best/worst for you?

Hi everyone, it's been a couple years since my last post! I'm struggling terribly with my fibro. After more than 10 years of living in probably the worst place to manage fibro, (Alberta, Canada), hubby and I are seriously considering a move. I can't live with this anymore, especially in the winter, and when the barometer go crazy (which is very often).

I'd like to know which weather conditions you all find are helpful and which ones are the worst in managing the pain and other fibro symptoms.

Hi Ginny: I live in the midwest (U.S.) and it's not so great for fibro. Cold weather always causes a flare and most notably in the Fall, when my body goes wacky...and usually stays that way until Spring!

The warmer months are always best for me, and such a relief after months of cold.

Ditto to Luvzminis. I too live in midWest (Ohio) September thru April-May can be terrible. I've been in a flare since March 2013 ...a year now. It was set off by stress and made worse by the winter this year. The sub zero temps and the craziness of Ohio spring is coming as well. Last April one day it was 45 then the next in the 70's then back down. Praying I start feeling better this summer. Looking to move to South Carolina in a year and a half. Can't handle Ohio winters anymore. I'm 45 going on 112. Yes get out of Canada , I couldn't handle that! !!

I'll third that! I live on the northern Colorado plains just east of the Rockies - again, where the barometer goes up and down all the time....it was over 70 today, just gorgeous, but we had snow and wind 2 days ago and we're supposed to have it again on Tuesday. Hard on bodies.

Going south looks better and better to me too, as I get older.

Living Georgia and I only flare during cold fronts and storms. It never gets very cold down here. I haven't worn a coat in three years.

Hi,  I live in Southeast TN and have a lot of problems with cold weather. We have had a very cold one this year.  My pain levels are up about 50% or more.  I do best in the summer and early fall.  Spring causes me to have a lot of pollen allergies and that's about as bad as cold weather for me.

When I visited FL several years ago I didn't have anywhere near as much muscle pain as I have in TN,  (we stayed four months with my father who was ill)  but I did have migraines during humid, rainy weather, which was most of the time. lol

I have wondered if states like Arizona where it's hot, dry and not so much pollen would be good for me.  Anyone here live in AZ?

I am in Michigan. It sucks... This winter has been especially hard for me.

Ginny, I saw your name and said to myself, "this must be an old post". Glad to see you back, but sorry for the reason. Keep posting. We have missed you!!!

I feel for you with this weather. We have been discussing moving too. Maybe by Sherrine... Just got to get the money for the move...

I spend summers in Oregon and winters in Arizona where we have been in the 70's and 80's all winter. I spent many winters in cold wet Oregon.

I hurt just as bad in Arizona but my mood is better as we have blazing sun every day. I can also get outside and do more which helps the mood. Our humidity is around 10% so I have to really drink all day.

I wish I could say that warm climates and low humidity fixed me or at least made me better - it absolutely does help the mood - winters in Oregon felt like death.....but I still hurt here!!

Thank you for all the replies! Here's why I need to move.... Calgary is a wonderful place to live in the summer and early fall. It's very dry here, much like AZ. It's the deathly cold winters and ridiculous barometer changes that I can't handle anymore.

I have to stay in Canada. Hubby and I still have to work and make money. So our only option to find relief would be a move to the west coast. Vancouver, B.C.. The winters are much much warmer but it's wet and humid, which I'm not used to, and I don't know if it will benefit my pain and other symptoms, or make it all worse!

I don't know what to do. All I know is that I can't live another winter in Calgary. I'm done!

Worst: Really cold winter. Rainy days too. I live in Montreal. -45C days are killing me!
I can feel your pain. My husband and I are also considering moving and we're looking at B.C. too.

Best: Las Vegas Nevada in June when it was between 40 and 48C.
It was a dry heat, I felt amazing!! All my fibro symptoms went away for the weekend. It was like living inside a heating blanket.

I live in Phoenix, and from what I hear Arizona is one of the best places to live for Fibro. This is bothersome to me, since my pain level is so severe it is barely manageable. I can't imagine what it would be like if I wasn't in the "best" climate for Fibro.

Best case scenario for me would be to spend summers in Calgary and winters somewhere else. But that's not logistically feasible. Sean, you are very fortunate to live in a good climate for fibro! Even though you still suffer terribly, it's hard to imagine how bad it could really get, right?!

I sometimes wonder if it's about weather. I live in Alaska and I use to think the weather was my problem. After stoping work and having very little stress my fibro has been under controlled. I really thinks stress plays a huge part in it. I am not so sure moving is all the answer.

Hi Ginny,

I'm in Calgary too. I feel for ya. I just got over a nasty flare up with migrane because of the stupid Chinook. I agree that the winters here with Chinooks are very bad for FMS. I suffer from it. I would love to move but, like you, I'm tied to this city because of work and family.

We spent a week in Florida recently (been there before) and I felt great. The humidity was lovely and it did wonders for my skin. It was also really great to have some green, lush environment for a while. This year, our winter in Calgary has been super hard. I am feeling VERY locked-in/cabin-fever. I miss the green and the option to be out doors.

I guess it's true it's not all about the weather is it. So many factors play rolls in how we feel.

Booklvr, that is so cool you're in Calgary too! I think this winter and last winter have been extra hard on us. What doesn't help is that we have to live with it half the year. Not just three months like so many other places. Half our lives are lived in this crazy environment. No wonder we are desperate to get out!!!

There are just too many other factors. Personal preference and personal medical issues all play their own part.

I have lived in the mid-Atlantic states, up and coast (Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania.) Humidity really bothers me personally, but I have always disliked hot weather. I don't really notice a huge difference in pain. Cold bothers me less so, though I always know when a front is moving in.

For me, it is inactivity that really gets to me.
