Hi everyone,
Sometimes I think I can't stand another minute of this pain. No matter how wonderful my support system is, they cannot comprehend the level of pain I am in every day.

I've had severe fibro for over 5 years. I've been on disability, but have been in college for 5 years (I'm 62 yrs. old) and about to graduate in May. I was planning on having a way to supplement my SSI by working from home as an Illustrator. School has been very, very difficult as I know most of you can imagine.

I knew my limits, how long I could work at the computer and how long it would take for my body to recover from the intense pain for spending way to long working on my homework.

In January everything changed for me. I was sitting at a light on New Year's Eve morning (12:15 am) and was hit from behind by a drunk driver. He didn't hit me directly behind, it was at an angle from the right back side of my car, causing me to Year's forward and twist my body along with my neck being pushed forward, then pushing my chin into my chest from the gravity and position of the other vehicle. I immediately felt a terrible pain surging through my body up and down my spine. It only lasted a couple of seconds, but it frightened me because I never felt it before.

I have had terrible muscle spasms from my spine being twisted from the accident. I go to PT twice a week, but the muscle spasms are awful. My bigger concern is recently my fibro seems to be even more painful, if that is possible. I can no longer vacuum, grocery shop, unload the dishwasher, all the things I have been able to do with fibro and knowing I would be in more pain for a day or so until my body recovered.

Have any of you had a change in your fibromyalgia after an accident?

My widespread chronic pain started immediately after a car accident and was treated as such for about a year. After that it became very clear that seeing a chiropractor and throwing muscle relaxers at me weren't addressing what I had going in.

Flash forward a couple years and I have fibromyalgia and herniated discs. I am very convinced there is a correlation between the car accident and the onset of fibromyalgia.

When I ran into a ditch the other day at slow speed I hurt for about two weeks. I hate to think how bad it would be of it was high speed.

Oh Yes I understand!
Read my first post about rear end and fibro I posted about two weeks ago.
I have had fibro for 13 years, pushed my way through university for ten years straight, including 25 hours a week internship hours for my MSW, all with great high hopes. Afterwards, no one had employment that offered me a job, it was this or that needed, mostly after school experience! Well, how can I have that if you don't hire me? I have a resume of advocacy and disaster work, ILS, MSW, Volunteerism, it goes on.
Anyway, now I was rear ended in December. My flare has not stopped, I have new spots of pain, cognitive issues and a screaming knee issue that after being sore when I was able to walk my dog amd drive there and back, two months later, When I was finally able to go out and drive and walk for four hours, Bam!
My knee is ruined, the pain makes me sob. I am seeing a ortho tomorrow and have high anxiety.
I wish I had words of wisdom but I can only relate. I am working, slowly, on a new WRAP and studying to do this from home.
Do not settle until every single test is done and your pain is gone or you know you need lifelong assistance! Insurance companies push you to do this as well as bad lawyers. Look for a good lawyer, not the advertised ambulance chasers. They make a large commission but will wait.

i was in a car accident in 2007. was working full time at a job i loved and could not go back to because my fibro got much worse. the left side of my body, neck, arm shoulder, back hip were all injured and i got horners syndrome. so i could not go back to that job. i was working full time and a part time job with no problems 45 to 50 hours a week. then down to maybe 20 hours if i was lucky. now none. it stinks really, i'm not one to not work. but i don't have to much choice.
