Hello Forum,

Anyone have experience with Fibro and post surgery/recovery? Do I need to prepare for difficult pain management?
I've talked with my pain management doctor and pain psychologist about it, and they're supportive and helpful, but I'd like some more feedback.
I'm having surgery next week, have had many before, but none since developing moderate/tolerable Fibro.

Hi, Seattlenative and welcome! I had my colon removed after I developed fibro and had a very speedy recovery. I wasn't expecting anything less. I was Christmas shopping at the mall eleven days after surgery and still had 89 staples in me so I sure had no difficulties. Everyone is different but this was my experience. I do have a positive attitude so that helped a lot,according to my surgeon. I hope you have no problems either.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. My here are good links about fibro and you will learn a lot there about this illness.

Great to hear from you. I've had many surgeries and am also very positive and savvy about recovery, but any new insights can do wonders. I really appreciate your encouragement. Take care you!

I would say, from my experiences, they should be able to keep you relatively comfortable. I've had the great majority of my surgeries since developing Fibro - in fact, it's kind of hard to remember the ones before!

I had pelvic surgery last year, and I was concerned about it with my fibro, but the doctor was great, made sure that I was padded well and in a (relatively) comfortable position and gave me lots of Toradol for pain. My fibro felt better after the hospital stay than before-- I still had incisions to deal with, but fibro actually was better.

Well I am glad that you'll had positive experiences.. may very well be because you have positive attitudes.

I've read that some of the positions our bodies are put in can cause flares which sounds logical to me. Perhaps talking w/surgeon to ensure he BELIEVES in fibro & understands hyperextending limbs can cause problems after surgery.

Personally, I experienced major flares after surgical procedures; I will say that I do not have a positive attitude about my life most of the time (depression) so that certainly may be a contributing factor. One fairly minor surgery resulted in very elevated pain for 7 months - my surgeon believed me & finally my physical therapist requested scrip for meds applied via (spelling) ionophatisis which helped calm down the pain .

Hi. It was a year yesterday from when I had my surgery. I have Fribo and I had no challenges because of the pain meds they gave me for the recovery. Realizing that everyone goes through recovery different I am just recently feeling the Fibro pain again. I hope this helps. I will keep you in prayer. I found this forum to be very helpful to me.
