Hi all,
I just got a response from the SSA on my disability application. As expected, it was denied. I plan to get some help for my appeal. Does anyone have any advice for the appeal process and what to look for in a legal firm to help on the appeal?

Get a lawyer who specialize in disability law. They take 25% of your back pay.
Also you have to be patience. I hired a lawyer last April and my hearing is coming up in September.
They will have you sign medical release forms from all of your doctors and hospitals. As it gets closer to your hearing date they want any new information.

Keep track of everything. Every medication you tried that hasn't worked and why. If you use heating pads, bengay, anything while you wait for your hearing it's a good time to think about all that. Don't get discouraged even though it's an overwhelming process the hardest part is waiting. Try to find a lawyer who has dealt with fibro cases if you can. He/she may recommend you go to certain specialists and you will likely have to go to a state doctor. Make a list of your problems and offer it to that doctor. He/she may add it to your file and it could help a lot. Good luck with your case :-)

Best wishes with the appeal. I agree on getting a lawyer that specializes in this. They do take some of your back pay but it is still worth it...

Patience is the keyword. It has been two years since I've applied. Hired a lawyer over a year ago.....it takes a long time!

I,m going through to my 3rd appeal here in
Ontario this time i got a lawyer and all i can say i should have done the first time.
I received a draft of just my info the other day and it is 18 pages lone compared to my 4 page report I did the first time.
My doctor was a pain as far as getting info from him and having him write it out in the report. Now whe the lawyer sends him a letter he replies . Because he now knows he can have a summons mailed to him for my case . He is not going to want to loss a day of pay.
The lawyer cast me $1500. and i think its well worth it. Just blows me away with the info they put in the reports compard my forms that i did.

When we got our case approved, it was limited to less than $4K that the lawyer could keep by our state law.


That being said, should you become in dire straights with threat of foreclosure and other bills going unpaid, you can send a letter to the judge and ask for an emergency hearing. (Your lawyer should tell you this, but ours waited until we almost lost our home and had no other way to make it much longer.) After I wrote the judge, it only took 2 weeks to get our court date here. (Just throwing that out there.)


Make sure to keep updating any new medications that you have to take, dr.visits, test results and any hospital trips you need to make.

Fibro is not listed in the SS manual on "Top Rankings of Disability" you are much better off going for a panic and anxiety disability - they are high on the approval list and much easier

I found out that you must be your own advocate. You need to follow up with Dr's if they actually sent your Dr's records to the attorneys or social security for review. Many times I found out they never got the faxed and no records were received. So they go by very little never letting you know they never received them. I got mine on my own, but if I knew I had to do it again I would go with a lawyer.

I hope you can appeal and get what you need. I wish I could go to work today, but my body would never hold up. I would not make an employer happy with sick calls.

I just got my SSI I got me a lawyer that handled disability cases only. I got it for having sever fibro. If your dr gives you a prescription for cane, due to me having compressed vertibrates in my neck I wore my neck brace and I have carptal tunnel in my hands I wore my wrist braces. The only thing though that I got in on was my fibro I also have neropthay in both feet.
