Hi, FeelBetter, and welcome! I'm getting older, too, and am not moving as fast as I used to but I'm not experiencing more pain and flares. Maybe you have something else going on on top of fibro. This happened to me. I was getting a lot of back pain but was blaming fibro for it. When it became raw nerve paiin running down both legs and I couldn't walk without two canes, I decided to get checked out by a board certified rheumatologist. It turned out that I also have a disease of the spine that was causing the excessive pain. I was put on ibuprofen with food and a muscle relaxer that has made a significant difference in my pain. I also have Crohn's disease but am using ibuprofen with prescription strength Pepcid AC and another medication that helps protect the stomach from ulcers. If I start to have problems, I will most likely have to switch to Humira or Remicade infusions. But so far, so good.
But do get a second opinion of what is going on. You might find that there is a simple solution to help you.
I also use Tylenol, magnesium malate, and vitamin D3. The vitamin and supplement help a lot with pain and fatigue.
It's important to keep moving with fibro so do walk, stretching exercises help with the muscle tightness, gentle massage can help, too. Pacing ourselves is a must. I just finished steam cleaning my carpeting this weekend. I HATE doing it but I have off-white carpeting throughout the house. So I do a room a day and I only fill the water tank half full so it's not so heavy. I work around fibro and this works for me. I love to garden and pace myself there, too. This is very important.
Do read Fibro 101...the first thread on the form. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there that can help you. There are links about the vitamin and supplements I mentioned and how they work in the body. All the links are good so do read it.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
