My wife, kids and I went to a wedding this weekend that was a six hour drive from home. I almost decided not to go between the mesenteric adenitis and my fibro crap, but I'm so glad I went. I took lots of pillows in the car, rode with my seat reclined, and we stopped often. My wife had the presence of mind to buy a cane before we went and I was very glad to have had it! I wouldn't have made it half as long as I did at a zoo, the wedding, the reception, and shopping in the three days we were gone. I took along lots of bandanas and washcloths plus invested in an athletic shirt (like runners wear) to deal with the sweating. The zoo was huge, hot, and quite hilly but I trucked along with my cane and saw all of the exhibits with the family. The ceremony was outdoors at a park right next to Lake Michigan. I was actually able to take a short hike down (and back up) a very steep hill to the lake that I couldn't have managed without the cane for balance and support. We got some absolutely beautiful family pictures down there and I would have been super upset if I'd had to miss out.
The reception was kind of a bust all together. It was in a very cramped, hot hall that was impossible to get around in and most of the adults were quite inebriated by then. I had about four sips of wine and dumped the rest because it made me sweat more and upset my stomach. The dinner started over an hour late, so by the time we got close to time for dancing it was after nine p.m. I was totally wiped and hurting and had to go back to the hotel, which turned out to be okay because there were far too many people for the small dance hall anyway. Yesterday we shopped in a mall, hit a gourmet popcorn store and a fireworks store on the way home, I did some origami with paper and books I'd gotten at the mall to help distract from my pain and tiredness, and got back to town just as a huge storm was hitting. All in all it was a pretty good weekend.
