Hi Michael,

I just wanted to tell you how much I'm enjoying using your phrase, "Not my monkeys, not my circus!"  turn  It gives me  an image that makes me smile, and it actually helps put situations out of my mind that are NOT mine to deal with....something I've always struggled with.  Double duty!  I can't tell you how many times I've said this - out loud or silently, with a little chuckle - since you used it here.  Funny, the tools that help us!

Anybody else have a favorite phrase that really puts things in perspective for you or makes your load easier to bear?

One of my favorite sayings is by St. Padre Pio: "Pray, hope, and don't worry." Concise and says it all! I'm working on all of those but sometimes that last one is tricky. :)

I tell myself, "Just do the NEXT right thing."
It helps you to keep moving forward and keeps you from being overwhelmed.

The monkeys and circus phrase is great, as is St. Padre Pio's prayer and of course, "this too shall pass."

For years I've used "Will it matter in 10 years?" Recently I read this one:

I'm using that one to try to reduce my anxiety, especially over things of which I have no control.

I have this hanging on my refrigerator....it's a real stress reliever for me and helps put things in perspective.

I'm very fond of "With every disability comes a corresponding gift...if only we can find it" which I heard from a man with aspergis disease.

I also really love to remember the words of the great Cave Johnson when I need a boost.

Helps me remember that many things with my health are out of my control and to have faith, but I can research, find good doctors, eat right, exercise, etc. to help me to control what I can control.

I've recently adopted the "not my circus, not my monkeys" to remind me to stay clear of family drama. I also live by "defy gravity" and "I'm not relaxing, I'm recovering."

Beaming with happiness that the circus and monkeys are helping some of you. I've tried using it at work but unfortunately it is my circus and they are my monkeys and I'm the ring leader ahhhhhhhh!!!!! Lol
