new here and recently diagnosed.

I've recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. ..mine started after having my 3rd and last baby , 4 weeks after having my son I thought I was having a heart attack I was rushed to the er for them to run a number of tests and after all said and done was told I had costochondritis. Well it's been 7 months since I had my son I've been to the hospital 6 times done several CT scans, mri's, and blood work and the only thing I was ever told was I had the costochondritis again ...so far 4 times. My Dr recently told me after more blood work that was normal I had fibromyalgia. I'm 29 and just had my 3rd child (my last) I was a nurse for 9 years and extremely active. I have recently lost my licenses due to being unable to perform my job :-( I have gone from 130 lbs on a bad day to almost 180 in 4 months and I haven't done anything different in my diet , my anxiety is terrible every time I get a new "pain" . At one point I was perfect this summer for over a month no problems I felt normal had a great summer with my kids.....then it's like it came back with a vengeance and has shown more problems then before. My family is tired of me complaining of more problems one recently being extremely bad lower jaw pain, crunchy feeling when I eat , pain to open my mouth a lot, pain in the back of my neck just overall mouth pain, feels like a terrible gum infection...my Dr just brushes everything off as fibro and it will work it self out. He hasn't given me NO medication to help at all. I had some pain pills left over from my c section I have managed to take if it's just unbareable but that's it. My pain is more on my left side and it concerns me ( although I feel it everywhere) it's more serious on my left side. Arms feel stiff like my skin is being pulled, my fingers feel stiff and get numb and tingly, my legs muscles twitch , my left knee hurts, my chest will hurt on my left side, shoulder etc......I do feel this pain all over but it is sooooo much worse on my left side. Anyone else feel like they have a bad ear infection?? That one is new along with this lumpy feeling I get under my left ear/throay/ neck area??? Idk. I guess I just want to know I'm not the only one and I'm not crazy. :-( sometimes I find myself trying to make it out to be something else and my anxiety kicks in.......any one else feel a cold feeling in there arms and legs at times either??? That's another scary feeling I get........

Sorry I know it's alot and kinda a scattered that seems to be how my mind does things now. Any advice would be great!! Thanks.

Soooooo sorry you are dealing with this but you have come to a great place. You need to fire your Dr. and find a new one. If possible a board certified rheumatologist. They see this daily. In fact out of everything they deal with Fibro is what they see the most.

I would suggest a few things. 1. You have a lot of anxiety and fear over this condition. I can see it in your writing, and who wouldn't?!!! This condition is soooooo scary AT FIRST. However it won't always be this way. When you find this new doctor you may want to ask for a mild anti anxiety med. Not to take forever of course, to just get you over the hump and help with the fear you are having. Remember FEAR stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. 2. You need something to help with the pain. There are many things to try but you have to keep trying til you find what works for you. 3. In addition to reading Fibro 101 (the first thread on the forum) grab a good book on this syndrome. I like FIBROMYALGIA UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL. written by a Dr. Whom has it himself.

When you find what helps take the edge off. (You will never be pain free with fibro) and get your anxiety under control. The pain will fade into the background, not be in your face screaming at you. Keep moving!!!! Staying stationary with Fibromyalgia is NOT an option!

Sherrine 1st mod whom replied has had this for over 25yrs I have had it over 14. You can still have a Great life inspite of this condition once you get it under control.I just spent 4 days in Myrtle Beach Boogie boarding walking for miles on the strip and soaking in the beauty of this great country we live in. You can do the same. Make a plan on getting better, keep looking for answers and hang out here and talk with our fibro family. Amazing group of people you will be inspired.

Some members are sent to a neurologist because one illness with many of the same symptoms is MS. Now...don't freak out! I would be very surprised if this is happening because of the fact this came on after recently having the baby. Members have gone into flares that way so this could be what is happening to you right now. But it's a very good thing to check for everything and I think that's why your doctor sent you to the neurologist. Everything will probably come back normal with this, too. Then, I hope he sends you to a rheumy if he doesn't plan on helping you with the pain.

By the way, many here have costochondritis...me included. There is a link in Fibro 101 about it so those weren't crazy diagnosises. <-- Is that a word? LOL

A lot of us have low vit d..which makes all the symptoms so much worse...so have they checked that? Sounds like they have checked a lot...

I have had some symptoms since i was little..and it can make you crazy at times, but the good news is you can feel better!
My dr gave me tramadol because it does not make me sleepy. I can not tolerate except baby dose of it, but it really keeps the edge off my pain so i can do more.

Like you the weather sends me into a flare..and we have been in a wet pattern most of the year.

Also since i cannot tolerate a lot for pain..some topicals give me a good bit of relief.some good ones are soothanolx2 , pain erase, biofreeze.

Gentle stretching and light yoga seem to help a lot of us...keeps the muscles less tense, equal less pain...

Just remember a good dr. Can help you with pain.once you get that under control..you will feel a lot more like enjoying those awesome little ones. My youngest is 33 today and we are celebrating the incredible woman she is for two days!

Does anyone else's fingers randomly feel weird?? I ask because here lately my fingers have felt weird it's usually one then that one will stop then it will be a different one? Today it's my left thumb it almost feels like the nerve in my thumb because it kinda goes up my wrist when it does it? Yesterday it was my right pinky finger?? Idk. Some of this stuff is crazy. Also another question.....any problems with your feet/or tightness felling in your throat/neck area?? Almost feels like there's lumps in my throat at times?? And my ears itch alot and feel full sometimes.

Sorry just trying to determine if it's all connected.

Yesterday and today these lumpy feelings I'm getting in my throat are driving me crazy feels real dry sort of and not really difficult to swallow more uncomfortable because my ears feel so full and itchy that I try to swallow and it almost feels kinda swollen??? Does that make sense?? Yesterday when I talked my throat got really dry and I had to stop talking and I would cough and have to take a drink as it got really dry, it seems to bother my left ear more but it comes and goes and will bother both eventually this is the second time this has happened with the weird feeling in my throat and ears the dr seems to say it's all just my fibro?? When it bothers me I can push under my chin/face and I feel like I'm going to gag but it also seems to help also, but feels like my bottom jaw/chin bone hurts also?? Idk my Dr pushes everything off as fibro/or anxiety so I never really know??

Before my Dr told me I had fibromyalgia he referred me to enter where he said I had chronic sinusitis, I then had sinus surgery in may I DO NOT think it helped at all almost think it made things worse.....my ENT gave Me prednisone for a 15 day period and told me I had a eustachian (if spelled right) infection of some sort. Well needless to say it didn't do anything but. A use me to swell up and gain 10 more pounds and my problems didn't even ease up.....I think it's allergies I may try some allegra.

Saw my new neurologist today...she actually listened and ordered several labs my primary dr hasn't done, lupus, ra, ck, ana, vitamin d, protein , hgba1c. And I'm scheduled for a emg soon so hopefully this helps me figure something out :-( the weather here has been crazy lately and I had a few good days this week and now it's all coming back again :-( just ready for some answers . Any one gain weight with all this fibro?? What are you doing to lose it? I've never weighed more than 130-136 and I'm currently 180!! I'm miserable. Thanks

Yes, I've gained weight. 30 pounds to be exact. Grrrrr!
Partly due to swelling from my lupus, but a lot due to vegetating on bad days. Also I'm prone to eating comfort foods. (Shameful, I know)

I would love to weight 180 again.

Yes all these new symptoms that pop here and there are very scary and bring us anxiety which doesn't help.
about those cold feelings I have them too and it is new to me. I didn't know what to make of it and I asked about it in this forum. You are the first person that mentioned it to my knowledge. They pop on my body whenever and wherever they want. It is hard to describe, it is not like big spot but like a point, cold, on my foot, my ears, eyes, belly, mostly everywhere. Sometimes the coldness is intense , sometimes less intense. It is very weird and scary.
It seems like the disease can bring new stuff anytime. We need to try not to stress to much and make the best out of it.
I would love to hear details about your cold feeling?

It happens all over my body at random times not just a specific spot.

I've had what I called "freezing" spells. When I was teaching I would get so cold out of the blue I would have to teach in the classroom with my heavy winter coat on and sit on the heater unit. I would shiver and shake like crazy during those spells.

I usually warmed up after an hour or two but I felt like I had been placed in a freezer with nothing on.
