bad flare?

Not sure if I have asked any one this or not? This past week has been a very busy week with a sick 7 month old and two very active little girls 9 and 6. I don't have much downtime. This week I have been experiencing alot of upper body pain.....shoulders, upper arms , my chest, my neck area, my chin bone even feels sore or tender to touch sometimes...also get these random bouts of pain in what feels like my breasts, and now I get this almost numb/ tingling feeling up the side of my head kinda behind my ears doesn't last long but every now and then I can feel it?? Anyone else have stuff like this?? I still have yet to get anything for my pain as I'm awaiting results of all the test my neurologist ran soooo I'm kinda just trying to manage it for now , but it is very hard with my small children.
Any advice would be great! Thanks so much :-)

Also I haven't been diagnosed with tmj but I get random pain in my jaw and a full feeling in my throat and here lately I'm not sure if it's just the costochondritis or not but sometimes my voice will get hoarse and I have to clear it and I get random moments were I get short of breath and then seems to go away? Since the jaw stuff my "mouth" just hasn't felt normal lately, anyone else experience anything like this? Thanks so much.

Yah, it's a flare. Heat helps, a bed buddie around the neck, a heating pad, a hot bath. Don't put too much into one day--plan your days and let go of things that are not necessary. Rest in between doing things. It will go away with time and rest--but if you continue to push your body past where it is comfortable, it can get worse. I had my body just quit, early on. It took forever to get myself back.

Medication can/will help. But right now you need to use coping strategies, pace yourself, and rest as much as possible.

Wonder if you called and asked for help with pain , if they would reccomend something to help through this...you still have pain even if they are not positive why...

Does.anything like motrin help you at all ? I find using strong topicals on the worst areas , lets me take way less medication...just a thought...

I've been taking ibuprofen 800 MG but doesn't seem to do anything at all. I am definitely in a flare as the evening has progressed my legs are achy and I'm really tired and sluggish also I've been getting some numb and tingling in spots randomly, like my arms, my shin does it and the top of my foot.

I'm going to see if I can. See my primary dr in the am and discuss something for the pain .

I would say YES to you're in a flare. I am just willing to bet the increased pain in your arms and chest is from more lifting of and tending to your sick baby. The others are right. You need to try and pace yourself more if possible. Move then rest when you can. Move and rest. If you have a bed buddie and heating pad like MYSELF09 said, then bust it out. Hot epsom salt baths are helpful as well.

The extra stress of a sick baby and the girls keeping you busy can wear you down quickly. I do hope you get something from your regular DR. to help with the pain. You have a lot going on anxiety wise as well with this illness. This is still very new to you with all the strange symptoms. It is very scary at first. A lot of "what if thinking" a lot of "how bad can this get?" We all know what your are going through because we have all been there.

Just keep hanging in there and doing the best you can, til you get a med that will help dull the pain. Remember to keep your expectations realistic. DO NOT THINK PAIN FREE, it is just not realistic. I have had pain every day for the past 14 yrs. Some very tolerable some not so much tolerable but never pain free. But you can expect to feel better than you do now and you will once you get the ebb and flow of this syndrome. you will learn your limits and you will learn that you can still have an enjoyable life even with something as ugly sounding as fibromyalgia.

Gosh you guys are amazing don't know how j could handle all this with out you guys. Thanks so much for all the encouraging words and helpful tips. I will get a bed buddie for sure and some Epsom salt. I have noticed things acting up all evening almost feels like pin or needles pricks all over my arms and legs this evening. I've definitely had alot going on with my sick little one. Tomorrow is a new day and I plan on taking it easy.

Another question, what are your takes on caffeine? ? Does it really make the fibro flares worse or more often?? I had someone tell me that and was curious if that is something common with fibro ?

I am caffiene sensitive, so i drink one cup in the morning, and only decaff after that....some days i would like a gallon , but then would not sleep so i have only one...

I have never had anyone say it makes flares worse...

Hope things calm down some for you...and your dr. Can get you something for that pain.

So sorry to hear how uncomfortable you are. It sounds like your going through a flare. The numbness is very common in fibromites. I know your life is very busy but try to keep the stress down as much as possible. Have you tried magnesium and vitamin D yet?

It would be great if your Dr. Would order pain meds and a muscle relaxer. I found out the muscle relaxer does better then anything. I know you need to becareful with meds since you have young ones at home. Learning some techniques on reducing some anxiety would be great. You can look it up on line. There are even you-tubes on fibro and anxiety too.

I found out heat is my best friend. It seems to relax the muscles. I sleep under a heating blanket just to relax my muscles for bed. If I get too hot I use a fan. You got to do what ever help you! Lol

Yes, sounds like a flare and all the posted replies have good information.
You will find what will work for you by trial & error. Rest is as important as it is to continue exercise which, with 3 young'ns at home, you probable get more than plenty.
I drink 2-3 cups of coffee in morning and occasionally a cup in afternoon or evening and never felt that it made my fibro better or worse.

Thanks for all the good tips , I have been taking it easy today resting in between my daily home duties and seems to be helping ease the pain , my sweet little boy is feeling Better today and has been playing very well , my two girls are in school so I've been able to rest pretty well today.

So glad to read that you are getting some rest. I only had one son but my Mom had 6 kids. Will tell you that I get most of the symptoms that have attacked you. Yes, it is a flare. I am still reading and learning from these forums.

I also have I.B. I had to stop drinking coffee when I had a bacterial infection. The first elimination to figure out what was wrong was to stop coffee. Gosh, I would drink about 5 cups at work. I switched to tea. I drink Green Tea now in the morning and switch to Herbal Tea after dinner. I can't take caffeine of any kind in the evening as it keeps me awake at night. Many people with Fibro have sleep issues.

Like, Michael, I have not been totally out of pain for 12 years. I have Osteoarthritis too, so I really have to pace myself. It is for sure a challenging health problem. I use heat and ice. Mostly ice for my headaches and heat for my neck. I can't sit for too long, work for too long or walk for too long. Having said that I do have pleasure in my life. You will have to find ways to keep your kids active that won't be so hard on you. Taking walks maybe. Glad your little boy is better.

Perhaps you could write down all your symptoms and try to discuss with your Doctors. My Headache Doctor listens to my concerns. He is honest and will tell if a certain med or supplement will help or not.

Caffeine bothers some, no others. I don't drink past morning, because it will keep me up.

I buy unscented epsom salts, and add essential oil to them to match my needs.

Thanks for all the help, I have been in a bad flare I think it's alot of stress and anxiety, and to top it off now that my son's feeling better I feel like I may be getting strep ( feels like flu) :-( I'm going in tomorrow to speak with my primary dr in hopes he will give me something to help me function daily for my pain!! At this rate if he won't help me I will seek another dr. I can't just sit around and not do an thing with my family and my kids I just can't. My pain was so bad at one point this weekend my sister who has had a recent stomach surgery gave me a couple of her pain meds so I can enjoy the weekend. I must say they did help I was able to shop with her and my kids as well as have lunch and seemed just fine. So hopefully my dr. Can give me something. Thanks again for all the support! :-)

Awww, yes hoping he will help you with something for pain...if we can tamp that down we can stay much busier and enjoy each day more..staying busy and keeping our muscles moving is much better in the long run. So most docs , at least good ones, say help with the pain issues and we will be better off in the long run.

My doc referred me to a pain clinic, but they just wanted to write for things too strong for me..so i left there and use tramadol he perscribes.

Your pain sounds a lot like mine. I have some neck issues (bulging discs) and also TMJ that add to that pain, but a lot of it is just Fibro. I see a chiro regularly who also does acupuncture and that helps a lot. I also found a TMJ specialist that treated that (even before the Fibro) and I can't imagine what life would be like if I was still dealing with the TMJ at the same level on top of Fibro (there's be no life to imagine).

It's good that you are seeing a neuro to rule out other possible issues, I'm sure they are doing/ have done an MRI to rule out neck issues as the cause for the tingling.

I've heard multiple views on the caffeine issue. I don't personally believe that it makes things worse (at least not for me) but everyone is different and has different triggers. It's like for some people caffeine cause migraines and for others it takes them away (I'm in the latter group).

That "feels like the flu" feeling is common with Fibro flares, so don't be surprised if they don't have answer for you at the primary. Years ago I had mono and I'll say that when I get stressed / go into a flare that it feels like my mono is back. I've said for decades that I have recurring mono and I still believe there is some sort of connection between it and Fibro.

When I complained about my jaw hurting my primary dr ordered the mri of the head/ neck. He said it was normal :-( I do believe I am getting whatever it was my son had, ad he's getting better I seem to be getting worse.....runny nose , sneezing, sore throat, and to top it off my mouth hurts the whole thing!! :-( the back of my neck is hurting as well , I'm just not having a good time with this :-( I really need some energy I'm slacking bad!! My weight is going up and my drive is at a stand still. Anyone have any suggestions for this would be great.

I wasn't able to get in with my primary dr till tomorrow so hopefully we can figure something out. Again thanks for all the great advice! !

P.s I did a warm bath (didn't last long as my children kept coming in and asking me a million questions) but the short time I was in there sure did relax my muscles :-)

Aww a virus and a flare together? Sorry to hear...one at a time we handle better...hope the dr can treat both...

It's no fun to get sick when you already have Fibro. If you have a juicer (or a blender) you may want to try making some fresh juice (Orange, pinapple, strawberry, ginger & banana is a great mix for fighting off those bugs and building your immune system). I'd also suggest doing Vita-C daily (those little powder packets are great for your immune system). Try to stay away from processed foods and starches, and go for healthier choices like fruits & veggies to help build you back up.

Ok i saw my primary care dr. No strep thank god just a cold. But he did give me Robaxin? ? To help with my fibro pains and discomforts?? Any advice on it? I'm real hesitant to take meds let alone one I've never heard of , and I tend to react to meds alot lately so I worry. Any thoughts on it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sherrine is this the one you mention? I am also med sensitive so i usually try 1/2 to see how i do? I think its a muscle relaxer...did he say at night?
