is Fibromyalgia the same as polymyalgia?

My husband started severe excruciating pain all over his body a few days ago. Legs are weak and arms and shoulders and hips are horribly painful. He went to the doctor and the doctor said he thought he had polymyalgia. He put him on prednisone, and it was a miracle. Almost all the pain went away almost immediately. He has energy, and he was even laughing. Does anyone know about this? Divoy

Fibro does not get better with predisone.
Polymayalgia just means pain in multiple joints.
Has your husband been checked for autoimmune diseases?

no, he has advanced cancer. We are just so pleased now that he has been out of pain for a few days. This polymyalgia came on suddenly three days ago. Thank you for answering. You sure have a lot going on. my best to you. Di

I have had prednisone help me with pain control. I would stay on it if it didn't have so many bad side effects for long term. There has been other fibromites take it daily. Your husband might of been going through an auto immune response. Yes, it gives you energy and it makes you hungry, but they are not good for long term use. My rheumatologist gave me prednisone for awhile and I love it!

I am glad your husband getting some relief. In some patients the side effects are not to worry so much about if it gives a person relief for comfort measures.

I spend more than 5 years drifting from doctor to doctor. My symptoms were hard to describe other than everything hurts except my ear lobes and eyelids. Weakness, depression, fatigue, etc., tested for everything but nothing showed up until by chance my regular doctor was out and the fill in doctor pressed several areas and diagnosed fibromyalgia and post polio syndrome. Wow. I had never heard of either. Rheumatologist confirmed. So never give up. So many concerns confirmed by one sharp doctor.
