told I have fibro, please answer if possible

I was told last week I have fibro. I have a question about this feeling I get. It happens to me once in a while and its so hard to explain but here it goes. I feel like this tingling and strange feeling in the core of my body, at the same time my head will feel confused and I feel instantly sick to my stomach however have never gotten sick to my stomach. It only lasts five to ten seconds and passes. Its the worst feeling in the world and I feel like all my organs are shutting down and I'm going to die. What is this, does this happen to anyone else. I have been looked at by many doctors, MRI's CT scans, etc etc. (million dollar workup, so they call it) When this happens it sends me into a panic. Please help me if you can. Thanks

Could this possibly be anxiety? Do you get these feelings often? Health anxiety can feel very real...

Just a thought...

I'm thinking like Karen on this one. Several years ago when I HAD severe anxiety disorder I would get the same feeling, with a host of other strange sensations. Have you been diagnosed with anxiety disorder as well?

Remember. ... you are not going to die from those feelings, that's all they are. When it happens be calm as possible and talk to yourself in a calming way. Example:Oh here comes that feeling again, but I know it's just anxiety. It's no big deal, I'm going to distract myself. It always passes. I'm just going to breathe through it and remain calm. I really am ok. I am in complete control of myself and the world around me. (Then get busy doing something. Clean a closet. Rearrange a drawer. Read a favorite magazine. ) Do this while using similar self talk above. The better you get at this, then eventually those body sensations won't come at all. I've been there it works.

Sorry about the fibro as well. Please read fibro 101 the first thread. Lots of info. Please continue to post. You'll learn alot here.

Hi, Nikcin, and welcome! I agree that this could be anxiety that is causing these feelings. With fibro, you have pain in all four quadrants of the body but you didn't say you had muscular pain. In Fibro 101 there is a link called A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. You can see it this sounds like what you are experiencing.

To get a diagnosis of fibro, you are usually put through a myriad of tests to rule out other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms as fibro. If all the tests come back normal, then you are usually diagnosed with fibro.

Be sure to read Fibro 101 as Michael mentioned. You will learn a lot there.

Thank you all so much for the replies, yes I have been told I have an anxiety disorder. I also thought they could be panic attacks but they last only a brief time (thank God) and then I am just nervous and scared after those spells. I do suffer from muscle pain in legs but mostly headaches and neck and shoulder pain. I also get very tired just doing a little yard work which I use to love to do. I feel like even when I sleep I wake up tired and sore.
I will read the Fibro 101 and so appreciate your thoughts.

Welcome nikcin! Does your muscles hurt after sitting for long time? Do you wake up feeling like you been hit by a mack truck? These are some of the symptoms fibromites describe At times when first realizing they have fibro. Many fibromites do have anxiety with fibro. I can't diagnose you, but a good start would be seeing a board certified rheumatologist. Has anyone brought up fibro to you before. I know many here are looking on the Internet for answers and they end up here.

This is a great forum to be on if you have fibro. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. I am sorry your having those terrible symptoms. Hopefully you can figure it out soon. Sometimes it just takes the right missing puzzle to put it all together. This is what happen to me. I was very sick and Dr's were giving me the run around until I just happen to find this. Forum. I started putting all the info together and educating myself until I figured it out from these great fibromites here. So whatever your diagnoses is I hope you can get treatment in it soon.

Thanks AK angel, I did see a rheumatologist which diagnosed me with fibro. I was just concerned about those weird spells I get every so often. I guess they could be anxiety or panic attack it just so scary and I wish I knew for sure. I also see a therapist who tells me he thinks its anxiety too. I think I just need reassurance because to me it seems impossible to feel like that and have it be anxiety. I have been reading all about fibro and the symptoms. I need to get on a plan with my doctor. He is suggesting anti depressant, water/swim classes (water walking) and yoga. I have to see him again in 2 months.

Anxiety can cause some very real symptoms. I would get a book about it if I were you and learn some things...
