Hi, Stacey, and welcome! I'm glad you decided to join the family. I was a lurker, too, took the jump, and have been here ever since. We have wonderful members who really like to help one another and, as a bonus, we do care about each other, too. I think you will like it here.

Why don't you tell us a little about you? Have you recently been diagnosed with fibro or have you had it for a long time? I had had fibro for 15 years when I came to the forum.

Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

Thank you for the welcome. I am not new to Fibro, but was recently dx. I've struggled pretty badly with it over the last 4 - 5 years, and the last year has been really rough. Cognitive issues have surfaced, and I'm really struggling to accept this new symptom. I've always had a photographic memory, so it's really hard to adjust to this.

The cognitive memory problem was quite disconcerting for me. I had had fibro for eight years before that kicked in. My husband had died suddenly and then the fibro fog hit big time. It was quite frightening for me since I didn't even know that was part of fibro. (When I was diagnosed they called this illness fibrositis and didn't know as much as they do now about fibromyalgia.)

I struggled to remember and my kids say we had conversations that I have absolutely no recollection. Now that made cry and I just knew I was developing Alzheimer's. But I was wrong. I went to the doctor about it and all the stress from my husband dying, plus we were in the process of relocating at the time (house was sold) AND my mother had a brainstem stroke two weeks after my husband passed on. All of this and fibro made my memory problems really bad.

But now I'm much better. I do take folic acid that helps with memory and I've learned to laugh my memory lapses off. That works really well. I know I have a good head on my shoulders and I know that fibro fog goes with the territory. I'm fine with that. If I stress over it, it's worse! So I just relax. I will remember what I was forgetting in a few minutes, hours or even a day. My daughter will sometimes finish sentences for me and I just laugh. I used to cry.

I also read a great book,that I use some of the techniques from, to help with remembering. It's called The Memory Book by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas. It was written in the 70's or 80's but is still being sold on Amazon. This helps me too.

You will relax about the cognitive memory issues once you truly come to accept them. It's tough. I used to remember everything but I still remember a whole lot so I focus on that. Life is good.
