How does Lyrica cause weight gain?

I tried researching this but couldn't find out exactly why. I've been on a very low dose (50mg) for a week and now it seems like I'm always hungry and wanting to eat.

I'm wondering if this is all in my head (because I know Lyrica can cause weight gain). I figured the people taking it could tell me from their experience.

Does Lyrica:

1) Increase your appetite

2) Slow down your metabolism

3) The weight gain is from edema

In my experience it increases my appetite for carbs. I've gained 25 extra pounds during my year on Lyrica. Trying to lose it now. It's coming off like any other diet so I'm pretty sure it's just appetite that adds the weight.

Mattie- I am not sure about the lyrica, but I take a med that causes increased appetite. So I have learned to take it right before I lay my head down. That has helped a lot. Then if I do wake up hungry I tell myself it's just a false appetite. There are times that doesn't work and at 3 am I am eating icecream. Lol

You have to be careful with weight gain pills. They can sure put lots of weight on you and cause other problems like high blood pressure and cholesterol. This is what happen to me. Then on the other hand if your happy and more comfortable it might be all worth it.
