Since diagnosed in may(know had much longer) I've started missing things. My memory for sure. A few years leading up to fibro I had terrible never ending migraines. At each onset had trouble finding words. Now every day is like that to one degree or another. Missing support. Every time I think my mom "gets it" she will say something hurtful. Today she told my sister she thinks my fibro is a wrong diag. This was after just barely making through lunch w/out falling asleep. Missing energy I have always had to prepare a nice meal, have friends over and clean up after. Today made it to sofa and collapsed, mom & sis doing cleanup. Knew it wasn't done thoroughly but no energy to care. Missing the old me, the one who does it all, cares for others, does crafts, gardens etc. I'm only 52 but feel much older these days. My sister gets it. For over 20 yrs we have lived in same city only a few houses away. She has seen what I'm capable of doing. Mom has now lived here for about a year but I don't see her every day. Missing so much. Yes--- have had a flare now for at least 3 wks, today being especially bad.

Don't worry about mom. She will get it eventually, give her time. It sounds like she's worried you may have something more serious if she thinks the doctor's got it wrong.
Be grateful fibro is not fatal. It just feels like you're dying some days. ;-)

It took awhile for my family to understand my illnesses. My mother still prodes me to get up and clean things that are fine to me. She believes in keeping a spotless house despite her arthritis.

You may want to read up on d ribose..you will still have fatigue , but not as severe..many with fibro also have other things also going on..do they think of migraines as a part of it?

In our family, we have a genetic form, but migrains
are not part of it.

I understand about your mother. Mine has been doing something similar. I think I just realized it when you wrote your post.

We know how much we do. I know it bothers me not to have respect and recognition from my mother. I'm working hard to remember that she no longer should have the power to hurt me (I forget frequently) and that my husband and daughter both understand. Please try to remind yourself that you know what you can do and how you feel and remember how much you do in comparison to how you feel.

Don't you hate January flares? I feel like this month will never end ....

I think sometimes people don't realize that fibro can cause a huge list of symptoms. Your mother might not really understand the degree that fibro causes. She might be concerned that you have something wrong with your brain due to your memory. I have friends say I heard fibro feels like you have the flu all the time. They don't realize the extent of what it causes.

This is why I like this forum. At least you don't feel alone in this. It took years for my husband to understand it all. I sometimes feel alone with these crazy symptoms. I am like you I am so fatigue today. I need to finish some things in the house, but too tired to care if they get done. I think I am going to bed early myself. Hope you feel better soon.

I've had fibro for years, and I knew that's what it was. I just didn't know how many symptoms it can cause. Further, the toll it takes on other systems in our bodies, because when one thing isn't working right, it affects other things. Since being dx officially with fibro, and being given a list of symptoms, I found that some things I was experiencing probably were from fibro, but I didn't know it could cause it. The blurry vision for example, and confusion for another. I seriously thought I had early onset alzheimers, and I'm still not convinced I don't on some days. lol I really feel out of control sometimes from the fog.

Anyway, I'm trying to say that even having fibro I didn't really fully understand how debilitating it can be until I developed more severe symptoms. I hope your mom comes around quickly to understand and support you.

Thanks for feedback. We have friends w/fibro and she compares me to them. When I try I tell her what hurts she tries to one up me. My knees hurt to touch "mine too from arthritis" etc. called a friend last nite w/fibro and she lightened my mood a little. Can't get to reuny til Thursday so it will be extra tramadol this week. Thankful for this forum.

It is like we have the same mother. They are so involved in themsrlves, they can never remove their own lives from a conversation. One time mine didnt have a personal one up, so she compared me to someone on a TV Show she was watching. My husband reminds me not to care, but sometimes it is hard. My thoughts are with you on this. I am glad you have a friend you can talk to about it
