Hi all!

I've been having lovely fun with vertigo for the last 3 weeks. It started out as constant and has gotten slightly better so that now its intermittent, but still for hours at a time and unpredictable. My primary care doc thinks it's benign positional vertigo but the things she has suggested haven't helped much. I'm currently waiting for my insurance to approve a referal to an ENT specialist to try and get the vertigo sorted out.

In the mean time, I've had to cut back my movement (walking, Tai Chi, and light jogging on a mini-tramp) because it's hard to do any of those when the walls are ganging up on you and you can't reliably tell which way is up.

So, my question is, how to weigh the Fibro driven need for movement against the vertigo driven need to limit movement? Any ideas/sugesstions?

Hi,

I have had several bouts of vertigo over the years..the first time i was positive we were having an earthquake...and the floor was in waves..like rippling...

There are lots of great floor exercises to do while you are vertically challenged...you can at least keep yourself more flexible and stretch out your muscles..i have quite a few that really help me with back pain..and i put in some gentle yoga..

You can google gentle exercises for your worst areas..no matter how bad i am i use the floor work and it really helps.

I went through a bad time with it just recently. My GP Dr. Figured it out on the treatment for me. She gave me Flonase nasal spray which open my euctachian tubes. Then I felt like I had some pressure in my one ear but no sign of infection. So she ordered antibiotic drops anyways. It took care of the problem. We thought it might be coming from my cpap machine. I had not enough moisture going through it.

Well I started the symptoms back without ear trouble. So I used the Flonase and it really helped. Flonase has steriods in it. It's a terible feeling for sure. I think mine is coming from my cpap but not sure.

Please let me know how your appointment goes. I never had issues with this before.

So I finally saw an ENT specialist last week. She said my vertigo is most likely caused by vestibular neuritis - inflammation in the inner ear(s) residual from having had the flu just before Christmas. She said if that's the case it should clear up in 6-8 weeks after the flu did, so another 2-4 weeks for me.

She also mentioned the other possibility is first symptoms of Meniere's disease, which to my understanding is basically the same symptoms (periodic vertigo) but it will never go away completely where the first option will go away.

The good news is that mine has faded a bit. It's now periodic and 20-30 min episodes instead of the constant that it was when it started. So I'm praying that it's the vestibular neuritis and will continue to fade and be completely gone in the next few weeks.

Hi, Mari.

I'm glad to know you're getting somewhat better...that sounds perfectly awful!

Almost 30 years ago, I was told by an ENT doctor that I have Meniere's, because that's the only thing that causes lower-frequency hearing loss, which his hearing test said I have. I've since been told by another hearing specialist that Meniere's is not the only cause - so I don't know.

I am dizzy to a certain extent all the time (I can't look out the window of a moving vehicle, ride a bike, or swing on a swing, for instance...or look at patterns!) but it's not to the point where I can't move at all.

The best of luck to you - hope it was just the vestibular neuritis.
