Funniest/Dumbest things people ever said to you about your illness

I have had some doozies lately, and thought it might be interesting to collect everyone else's.

From my Rheumatologist to me "Based on the points you told me you had pain in, it sounds like you have Fibromyalgia. I'm going to prescribe Lyrica and will send my notes to whatever doctor you want to take over your case so you don't have to come back here since there is nothing else we can do."
From my Neurologist after receiving the notes from my Rheumatologist "They said you have Fibro and gave me a list of treatment options for me to follow through on as well as recommendations on changing your meds including your Lyrica".

From a friend "You can do whatever you think you can. All of your limitations are just in your mind"

From an acquaintance "So, did you have to stop taking fiber supplements when you had Fibromyalgia?"

From my mother in November "I have a friend that has Fibromyalgia - I hear that can kind of suck"
From my mother in December when I referenced having a daughter with Fibromyalgia "Who has Fibromyalgia?"

Those were just the first few I could think of. I know others have more. I just like to laugh at this stuff instead of scream. :)

I love that one. My husband is having trouble keeping it all straight. His recent comments are all to the same subject "I don't remember you having any of these problems before you took all that medicine." The key word is, of course ..... remember.

Take long walks. Get plenty of sunshine. Just don't think about it. I thought you'd be better now that you live in California and you're in love. I know a lady who had it for 6 years and then her doctor told her it was all in her head and she's better now. Maybe you sleep too much.

Many of these I have also heard - if I had, say a broken leg or diabetes or cancer noone would think of being so cruel !

Repeatedly I am told those by people who 'love' me
That I will be so much better
if I WANTED to,
if I exercised more,
stopped being a drug addict - conveniently do not remember the years I spent in bed, crying, prior to finally taking stronger meds.

Attorneys are almost worst, despite having MEDICAL doctors' reports & tests & years of experience.. someone I am paying to work for me casually calling me a liar. !!

I must spend too much time on facebook. I'm reading through these posts and looking for a "like" button. I don't always have something to add but want people to know I enjoy their posts.

The fiber supplements comment and the "oh ok I should try" that made me lol.

Achybody, it was laughing faces. My tablet has faces, but I guess they don't work on this site.

From my Husband - calls my chronic pain - "pretend pain"

From my Husband - "you take way too many pills"

From my Mother who I love dearly - "why is that you cannot walk"
I don't think my Mom, who has suffered with Migraines for years, goes walking with Migraines. I have to walk with headaches or I would never move.

My now ex-husband told my sister that I was making my fibro diagnosis up. I didn't find it funny then, and I still don't. He doesn't understand why I won't give him another second chance (how many second chances does one man need?) He'd constantly question me: "Who suggested fibro first, you or your doctor?" When I asked my doctor who is also our son's doctor to test our son for something, my ex expressed surprise that the doctor would do what I asked. Why wouldn't he? I'm paying for these tests after all. When I said that he usually will do what I ask my ex asked "Did you ask him for a diagnosis of fibro?" I didn't even dignify that one with an answer.

This morning I got the following query from a dear friend, who has seen my decline over the years. He yet still asked, "Why are you so tired?"

I've explained my move and situation change to Ohio. And after the tired question, he said, "Moving to Ohio won't change that."

If I pulled a few strands of hair out for every ridiculous question or statement about my Fibro, I'd be bald and raw to the bone!!!

My current Favorite is when I try to tell someone what is happening they quickly say "well everyone has that".

Other Person "How do you know you have Fibromyalgia?"
Me "I wake up in pain and ......"
Other (interrupting before I can finish) "Well everyone does that"

My daughter razzed me a little about being asleep at 10 in the morning still when I crashed at the end of a bad week of sleep. I used to be the first one up - always. A friend of mine overheard and butted in with "it must be nice - I have a cold and haven't slept in 3 nights"

I smiled, sympathized and turned away thinking that I call three nights of no sleep half a normal week.

This reminds me of something unrelated to fibro but related to funny comments.

When I went to local church here, a bunch of elderly ladies approached me and told me how lovely my children were. Then they proceeded to ask what orphanage I got them at!

Their dad is Korean.

Back then I was so much nicer than I am now, and I laughed with them and said they were "mine". Tehehehe...they all shared a giggle of almost embarrassment.

More, from my mom:
Your dad has never been a morning person either. Have you tried going to bed earlier?

I asked my mom if she would say to a person with a broken leg that "I'm not a walking person either. Have you tried walking in the sunshine? That always makes me feel better!"

This went completely over her head....
