I get them too. Mine are worse when I'm lying down, and especially when I first stretch my legs out in the morning. It's sometimes my feet that cramp up then, though.
When my calves feel really tight, I'll instinctively do that exercise where you put one leg slightly behind the other, lean against something (with your back straight) and keep your back foot on the floor. I don't know if I'd be worse without doing this, but it feels like it helps some.
Potassium is supposed to help with cramps....I eat a banana almost every day, but that's not hard for me because I love bananas.
