LDN

Has anybody tried the LDN meds for fibro? Its for use in helping people get off prescription drugs ect. but it is being used on fibro patients. LDN-low dose Naltraxone. The only draw back is you have to have all narcotics including Tramadol out ofyour system before you can try it. I dont know if I could survive that long off my meds. Its like walking a tightrope when you have fibro and any slip in routine can set off a flare.

Kcblues, I haven't used this drug, but I do take subutex for pain. It has similiar way of treatment. I went on this because I was very dependent on lots of heavy narcotics at one time. I hated how they controlled me. I just love how the subutex works. It helps my pain very well. I rarely have breakthrough pain. My pain managenent Dr. Is using this for chronic pain more now. It doesn't mess with your head. I sometimes forget to take it because it works so well. They are very long acting drugs. I take 2 of 8mg tabs daily.

I've been using LDN (Low Does Naltrexon 4.5 mg) for 4 months for Fibromyalgia.
It is still being prescribed off-label for Fibro (and apparently all pain related diseases..MS, etc). It's not a cure-all, but after seven years of this I'll take what I can get! I haven't had any terrible side-effects as with the other drugs prescribed for Fibro that I've tried. I also tried several different antidepressants which I had to discontinue due to side-effects. ​Pain pills were never an option and from what I've read they aren't effective anyway.

Benefits:

Better sense of well-being. ​I had some depression or blues, especially during episodes. ​It seems to have a little bit of a antidepressant effect, but not like antidepressants I've taken. It doesn't "numb" the senses. I still have emotions. (hope that makes sense!).

Brain Fog is better. It took a month and a half (I started at .5 and dosed up) for the fog to lift, but it is much improved.

Headaches are better. I've only had one migraine since I've been on this (2 mos now) and I was able to head that one off before it became severe.

Tender points are improved. I can actually wear a bra! I don't know if you have that problem, but for the past two years I wore a bra only when I went somewhere and took it off in the car ride home. During episodes the tender points are not as painful and it's not constant anymore.​

Skin sensitivity is improved. The all-over pain (where just being touched feels like being punched!) is much improved.

Fatigue is better. I can do light exercise (walking) and a very easy yoga DVD, which I couldn't do before.

Some digestive upsets still, but mainly during episodes.

I haven't had vivid dreams like some people report when taking LDN.

​T​aking a warm bath i​s the best ​pain​ reliever for me during episodes. Oh to be a fish!! Haha.

I do have to say that there seems to be some problems with the compounding of LDN. I was getting it from a pharmacy in NY for the first 3 months, but with my 2nd RX from them I noticed within a week that I was having symptoms again. So I am switching pharmacies for my next prescription.

Why would the dr. Care...does he get a cut of what he prescribes? Hmmm .. I do not know..but i don't think he does.

Dr Linda Watkins gave a wonderful presentation about how LDN works, and where glial-specific treatments are going. Very thought provoking, does not require a type of condition, it is related to any chronic pain condition.
