I am so sorry,Stacey, that you are in so much pain. I hope you get better soon.
My doctor ordered Gabapentin to get the flare under control and said to take it for 2 weeks. I sleep better but wake up so tired. Hubby wants me to follow the Drs. orders and not stop it so I will keep on it. I hate taking medications but thankful for the sleep.

My husband asked that I would follow the Drs. advice and take the Gabapentin for 2 weeks to get the flare under control and to help with the insomnia. I will listen to my husband.
Has anyone else taken Gabapentin? I was reading about
side effects. They don't seem as serious as some of the medications I've read. Do you ladies have any info? Does anyone here take it and how does it work for you?

hi Grammyg I've been on gabapentin since November. I am now at 1200 mgs (900 at night 300 in the morning)and the only side effects I ever have is if I'm increasing the dose(went from 900 to 1200 )and they only lasted a few days. It doesn't even make me sleepy so that may go away. I titrated up pretty slowly in the beginning because I usuaaly have bad effects from everything eventually I gott to 600 and stayed there for a few months and then at 900 for a couple of months and just recently went to 1200. I didn't really see much relief til 600. I still have to take something to help me sleep but my pain is much better, I've lost a few poundssince being on it and my migraines are almost gone. It does take a while to work though so I would give it at least a few weeks. I do have a little bit of fog but less than I've had on other things. Plus Im use to that from the fibro anyway.
Also just remember everyone is different so wht works for some of us may not work for others. I've tried many things that didn't work for me before I found this. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you.

Gabapentin isn't something you really take for 2 weeks, as it takes a few weeks to reach full potential. It helps alot of people, if it is helping you I'd talk to your doctor about
continuing to take it.
I took it for like 6 months and swelled like a balloon, my feet were so huge it was unreal, it took awhile for me and my doctor to finally realize it was the gaba doing it. It is one of the side effects, I stopped taking it and the swelling went away. I can't really say it did anything for my pain either, but everyone reacts so differently on medication it's always worth it to give one a try. I say if it is working, to keep taking it.

GG, I've been on it for two years now. After I take my nightly dose I start getting sleepy about
an hour later.

Awwww.. Hope its not the meds either..its hard to find what helps and does not give too much side effects...
Its often trial and error to get that figured out..but with fibro, most of us need some help from medications.
Hope tomorrow is a much better day.

My mind is always going as well. They gave me the Ambien because my mind never shuts down. I usually get a couple of good nights a week and the rest is iffy. Part of that is that I have trouble sleeping due to TOS. IT bothers my right arm and the pain overloads the sleeping pills, etc. I think the rest is due to what someone mentioned above. These are disorders of the central nervous system. I think there is something to be said for the fact that it is messing up our sleep. I would love to see some research done on that.

Firefly... it makes sense that a problem with the central nervous system would affect the brain shutting off (anxiety?).
No problems with the medication today.
Thank you, Lord!
