I have CFS. I had been improving from my CFS, but over two months ago, I had a surgery for something unrelated and ever since the initial pain meds wore off I've been in pain all over and the fatigue has gotten way worse. I am bedridden. I only get up if I absolutely, positively must. Bodily functions haven't always been a must. I am in pain all over, and it doesn't seem especially related to the surgery site. I'm really scared of addictive painkillers, but NSAIDs aren't working, except to relieve the headaches. It's terrible. My doctor says there are a few things it might be, fibro being one of them. But when I read the descript
ions of fibromyalgia pain, they aren't very specific. It's hard to distinguish from other things. I know that's partially because the pain isn't in any specific part of the body and the symptoms vary for different people, but there are some things I'd like to know more about
fibro pain. For example:
On
this more descriptive version of the "happy face" pain scale, what number range do/did you fluctuate between when you weren't on pain meds? What was your most common number? And how different is it when you're on pain meds?
What about
on
this super-descriptive 14-point scale? What parts of the descript
ions were true for you before pain meds? And how different is it when you're on pain meds?
Someone said they feel pain on their skin that moves around a lot, like it's just raw and prickly in lots of different places. Is that common? Are there other types of fibro pain besides the muscle pain and headaches?
Does doing anything, like any particular movement, make it worse? Can you or a doctor do something that makes it hurt, besides the tender point test, like raising your limbs, walking, carrying things, clenching your muscles, etc.? (Obviously some of these affect your tiredness, but I'm curious about
pain.)
And that leads me to, what do you actually feel, like a good descript
ion, when they do the tender point test? I just feel pressing on something that already hurts, so it hurts, but I also read that men (I'm male) aren't as sensitive to the test. Maybe the pain I feel is what I'm supposed to feel but I don't realize it. What kind of pain do you feel when they press a tender spot? How bad is it? Is it like "Ow, stop!" or just "Yes, that hurts, I hurt all over."
I can't find much detail about
trigger points. I know they make pain shoot to other areas, but I can't find an image of where they are. All I can find are the tender point diagrams. Where are the trigger points, and where does it make the pain shoot to? What does shooting pain even mean, do you feel pain all the way in between the place that was pressed and another place, or is the pain just in two separate places at the same time? How bad is it? Does the non-touched
location just feel a non-painful sensation or some other reaction, or is that spot just as painful as the touched spot?
Thank you a lot! I know this is a lot of questions, but it's hard to find really detailed descript
ions so I can say "that's me" or "that isn't me."
