Hello all. I have a couple of symptom questions. Does anyone have experience with fibro and hot flashes? If so, are they distinguishable from premenopause hot fladhes? Also, has anyone felt like they were being squeezed around the ribs, with every inhale? If anyone has any info, I would be so appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Tuesday's Child,

I've had the squeezing sensation around the ribs for many years now when I inhale. I have trouble exhaling too. What has helped me is seeing a PT doctor who has worked on my pelvic floor muscles and she's given me exercises these past weeks to help my breathing and tight muscles.

I have an easier time taking a deep breath now but it's still not normal breathing.

Concerning the hot flashes, I get those when I eat certain food items.

Thank you! I forgot, until you mentioned it, I just noticed that I get flashes after eating. Man! (Whining). Like the premenopausal ones aren't enough! Sigh!

Nice to meet you!

I went through menopause about 6 years ago, and I did get some hot flashes around that time, though not as bad as I've heard some women describe - but then, I'm usually cold, so maybe that's why.

Sometimes I'll still have to suddenly throw the covers or my sweater off, but the feeling doesn't last as long.

As for the squeezing feeling, I don't have that so much as the sense that I'm not getting as deep a breath as I'd like to. It's especially noticeable lately when I lie on my side.

Thank you both. I have an appointment with my rheumy in the morning, so hopefully she'll have good news for me. That squeezing feeling has subsided quite a bit, but it was scary. That's why it's really nice having these forums. Tons of help!
