I read this before I walked out the door for work. I have been trying to figure out how to respond, or if I should respond at all. I shouldn't have, but I went to the website listed at the bottom of your post. If really irked me. Basically it is saying that if you have this type of pain it is because you are fat, lazy, and stressed. And if you take care of these "issues" the pain will just miraculously go away. Several people I know who have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia are not obese or sedentary. Actually they are quite active and fit.
I am confused as to why you, and others, have a problem with the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. There is a group of MANY people who have the same symptoms in varying degrees. There is not a known blood test to explain why. But we know that these symptoms exist. So we group it together and call it fibromyalgia. which means "muscle and connective tissue pain". The blood test rule out anything more serious.
My son has Tourette Syndrome. He was diagnosed by his symptoms. They did tests to rule out any other serious neurological issues. But there wasn't one test that said aha! Look, it is the Tourette Syndrome gene. The same with my daughter's migraines. She has headaches that are unbearable and cause her to be unable to
open her eyes, and cause her to vomit, etc. Just because tests don't show she has a brain tumor, does that mean she isn't having migraines? I just don't understand why people are so quick to say that Fibromyalgia is a nonsense diagnosis. Call it the Heebie Jeebie Syndrome for all I care, but the fact is it is real.
As far as my dr. He is a rheumatologist. He is highly regarded in his field. He did not diagnose me just by touch. He ran tests. He took a thorough physical history. AND he also touched those touch points to see my sensitivity. He did not rush to put me on medications because he wants to see if I improve with a CPAP. I am waiting for the results of a sleep study as we speak. As far as pain. My pain starts at my neck and goes to my ankles. Brushing up against something lightly can cause tears because the pain can be so bad. Insomnia? Not so much. Fatigue? Absolutely! Every day. Almost all day. Difficulty remembering and concentrating? Yep. The wonderful fibro fog that drives me crazy!!!
BTW. I am also seeing a physical therapist and a chiropractor. Every professional I have seen concurs with my diagnosis. And supports the course of treatment being followed. A very cautious approach.
I HOPE and PRAY that this satisfies your curiosity and helps you see another way of considering this syndrome.
The trigger points are based on the mysofacial touch points which are supposed to be sensative even in very healthy people. I have written about
them here Can you tell from my chart what version he is using?
I'm very curious what your doctor is using them for, they were with drawn in 2010
The new process is not supposed to take multiple appointments. The reason it took so many appointments before was to rule out other problems, but now it is no longer a diagnosis of exclusion so they can say it's fibro and keep looking for toher things. I've written about
the current process here but it's just a survey. If you have pain in 3 of the pain areas for even a split second in the last week, and been about
the same for 3 months, causing insomnia, difficulty concentrating and fatigue you should have it. That really is all there is to it.
Can I ask whereabout
s you are, and if this is a regular or a naturepath or ?? I'm very curious about
this, thanks.
