Robaxin vs Flexeril. opinions please?

Just wondering if I can get some feedback from those that have tried these muscle relaxers. I see some of you mention Robaxin. I have only tried flexeril and frankly icant stand taking it. if I take a whole one i sweat buckets and can't function and if I even take a half one I can't fall asleep at night but mid day the next day I can't stay awake.

Just wondering if robaxin causes the same kind of tiredness in anyone. please excuse any typos. I use a tablet and don't seem to have muchluck typing on it.

I use to take Soma Compound. I like it better because it doesn't give me that hangover like flexeril does.

You need to eat with it though, or take with food. No stomach issues but a slight buzz if you don't eat for about 30 minutes. It is often abused though and hard to get.

The first time I took Robaxin was back in 1980 for low back pain. I was prescribed two tablets four times a day. I took the first two tablets and fell asleep within fifteen minutes and slept for about an hour or so. When I awoke my back pain was so much better. The next dose and future doses didn't cause me to fall asleep...only the first dose did. I had absolutely no other side effects. So whenever I was prescribed that medication I would get comfy and take it knowing I would fall asleep with the first dose.

When my muscle pain was so bad with Fibro and AS I asked for Robaxin and was given the same prescription...two tablets four times a day. I didn't want to take that much since I knew this would be a long term proposition. I took one tablet and was expecting to fall asleep but it didn't happen on the lower dose. So that's what I've been doing and this medication has helped me significantly with muscle pain. I now only take two tablets a day...one before breakfast and one before dinner. Rarely will my back hurt at night now but if it does I just take another tablet and can go back to sleep easily.

This medication has caused me no other side effects. I'm not drowsy, dizzy, etc. and now I don't get sleepy either by taking less than what was prescribed. I need a medication like that because I live by myself and also want to drive safely. My independence is extremely important to me. I take the generic form of Robaxin called methocarbomol and it is inexpensive also.

Flexeril is the "new kid on the block" I think and many doctors are prescribing it but Robaxin has been a good drug for many years. It might be worth a try for you. We are all different as to how medications affect our bodies. Trying something is the only way we know for sure. Hope this helps you.

Flexaril does the same thing to me. I was on roboxin but had a reaction to it. I can't remember what it did to me though. 😕

I've been on Flexeril for quite a few months. I have a problem with medication not working after taking it a short period of time. So, I take a Flexeril one night with 1 or 2 Gabapentin and the next night I take over the counter Ibuprofen PM. It took months to finally come up with a combination that has worked long term for me. I finally feel better than I have in 3 years. I'm hoping it lasts. :-)

I could not take flexeril at all..even cut in 5 ths trying to find a tolerable dose..i am sensitve to medications..

I definitely could use a muscle relaxer, but after that experience have been afraid to try them again..

Yrs back, my then dr gave me Soma. It was ok, but no great relief. My rheumy gave me Flexeril a cpl of yrs ago and it worked very well. Naturally, my insurance decided it was too expensive, so I was given a list of 'approved' meds to take to my rheumy.

My dr then gave me a rx for meloxicam. I only use a portion of it, bc it will knock me out. I have a lot of problems w/ meds - either allergies or very sensitive.

I can't even take an aspirin or Advil and drive.

I hope you can find something that can help you.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to see about trying the robaxin. I just haven't been able to find a tolerable dose of the flexeril its either too little or too much.

Sorry, a little late in replying.

I take Flexeril and also Neurontin (gabapentin), and my doctor has okay'd me taking each as needed (I know not every doctor is okay with that, so please check with your doctor first).

I find the Neurontin really helps the nerve pain, and the Flexeril helps my stiffness. I haven't tried any other meds for fibro, so I can't really compare them to anything else.

I can take a low dose of Neurontin (100 mg) during the day (unless I have to drive somewhere; then I avoid meds totally) and not get overly tired. However, with the Flexeril, it always makes me sleepy.

Sometimes, I break the Flexeril in half, and find it still helps. And it surely helps me sleep better, though I prefer taking something more natural if I have insomnia.

Just as an aside, I requested Neurontin in the lowest dosage possible, because I found it often helps, even at a low dosage. But with the Flexeril, I think 5 mg is the lowest dosage available. The lower dosages can sometimes help, without making you feel you've just been run over by a truck! rolleyes
