Gum Pain

Does anyone with fibro experience gum pain like I do?

I know my gums are sensitive..always have been ..maybe a nerve thing?

I had a root canal done in about 2002 and have been to a few different dentists since that time.

My new dentist looked at my X-rays and said it looked like I had an infection in my root canal area.

Have you had a root canal? If so, is it on the side of your mouth where you're experiencing pain?

I use to get shooting nerve pain on the left side of my face around my ear and that's whereabouts the infected root canal was located. The pain is gone now since I had it taken care of. I had to have five treatments for the root canal and when that didn't take the pain away I had a session of ozone therapy done by a holistic dentist.

When did the gum pain begin? After your root canal? If so you may want to consider getting a second opinion from a holistic dentist in your area. Maybe you could call their office with your questions first?

That condition does sound similar to my problem. The pain is usually on one side at a time, sometimes it's an achy feeling but then I get small sharp stabbing pains over my mouth, I often get pain in my cheek, and in and around my eye as well. Thank you for the link, I'll probably check in with my general doctor.

I'm sorry to hear you have this pain too. Like you, my pain has been nearly constant and it's been going on for a few months.

Do you take medicine for it?

What kind of doctor did you go to for it?

How long did it take for them to diagnose you?

Mine is one sided.

Is your pain mostly in your top teeth/gums? My sinuses really aggravate my teeth, and the pain is intense. It mostly only bothers my top teeth (both sides), and it is intermittent. It is a stabbing, throbbing pain. Often, if it is sinus related, the pain will intensify if you lean forward or bend over. Also, do your sinuses feel tender when you press on your cheeks and/or forehead? Sometimes mine do, but often they don't. Tenderness in your face can indicate a sinus issue, but it isn't always present. I don't have a sinus infection, just drainage/post nasal drip/inflammation. It is much worse when my allergies are bothering me. If you suspect it might be sinus related, you might try an antihistamine and/or decongestant to see if that helps any.

I also have TMJ, but the symptoms are different. My TM joint will hurt (in front of my ear), I will have clicking/popping, and the pain is more diffuse in my mouth and jaw. It feels like a much different kind of pain than the sinus/teeth pain.

In my experience, sinuses can wreak havoc on your teeth and cause quite a bit of pain. My teeth and gums will even feel tender when I push on them. It doesn't take much of a sinus problem to cause tooth/gum pain in some people.

My gum pain is mostly on on the bottom and almost always one side at a time. The gum pain sometimes coincides with pain in my cheek, around my eye, and sometimes my jaw. A lot of the time the pain is only in my my gums though. It is a stabbing pain like a hundred little needles stabbing me. The pain in my cheek and eye is more of an extreme ache sort of like a bad headache. It does not get worse if I lean forward.

I haven't tried those medicines, but I will when the symptoms flare up again.

I've had sinus pain and that isn't in my lower jaw. Sinus pain for me is dull and relieved by pressure. My TN starts with a dull ache for a few minutes, similar to the ache of sinus pain, that's how I know I'm about to have an attack. Then the waves of pain come. I feel it starting at my ear and going down my cheek to my mouth. It's just keeps going in waves from ear to mid point of my jaw. It is stronger on the lower jaw. Afterwards I get an ache in my ear and jaw, and sometimes even around my eye.

If you have to wait to see a neuro, you could go see a physio therapist to check out the mechanics of your jaw. They are really good at determining if it's TMJ or not. My jaw is good. I do not have TMJ.

Mine sometimes cause a stabbing/throbbing pain, but it is only in my top gums and teeth.
