Hi everyone,

So I came back from my follow up at the rheumatologist and this is basically what he had to say. I came back positive for parvovirus, it isn't active at the moment but I have had it relatively recently. Then he said this has caused mild arthritis and fibromyalgia. Does this seem plausible?

I only question this because it is a very common virus that 90 percent of us have been exposed to by the time we are 60. Not everyone is sick like I gave been for the past 3 years and I'm only 24.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been given a similar diagnoses.

Ugh so confused.

Also has anybody had success on plaquenil?

Very interesting. I had no idea that people could get it. what treatment plan did he offer for it?

I've not heard of this diagnosis as a cause of Fibro. I looked it up and it doesn't sound like the basic symptoms are like Fibro either. But you can sometimes get painful or swollen joints usually only for a few weeks. That can last longer but it does go away. That doesn't seem to happen with Fibro.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I didn't really think it added up either. I have done some research and I've never had symptoms similar to it so I think the doctors are grasping at straws because they don't know what to tell me and I guess they figure I don't have access to the Internet and you guys. All my blood work has been so perfect that they could only find this one discretion so they are hanging on to it but it doesn't seem to be plausible. Ugh I just want to feel better. I still think it is lyme my gp thinks fibro and the rheumatologist thinks this virus or some kind of virus knocked me off track. I just don't know what to think anymore.

As for treatment plan the rheumatologist put me on plaquenil 400mg for 3 mnths and then 200mg for three months. The info sheet says I won't notice anything for at least 8 weeks. Other than that I am just on bisoprolol 1.25mg for unexplained palpitations and tachycardia. I have tried all the fibro drugs, prednisone, nsaids, gabapentin, etc. To no avail. The only thing that has touched my symptoms was a dose of antibiotics for a bladder infection. It cleared that plus everything else for almost 2 months. That's why I think it is lyme.

You may want to research one of mother natures antibiotics, ie : oregano oil..

I can knock out a virus in one day with it, as it is also antiviral, and a topical pain reliever...it tastes awful and smells odd, but is an awesome product

My children had fifths disease (human parvo, not the same as animals have) back in the mid 90s. I became sick first actually. Severe joint pain in hands and ankles! Liver enzymes were elevated too. My doctor said it's not fifths disease when my children were clearly diagnosed by their pediatrician. I did some research and I had all the symptoms. I can't remember the treatment...but I know I felt really bad. I got Lymes in the 90's too. I was treated with 2 weeks of antibiotics. Now they say that's not enough. I would love to get tested for Lyme from igenix? Can't remember the name...I just don't have the money.
Sometimes I do wonder if these viruses can stay in the body and cause problems later. I mean if mono and chicken pox can, why can't others?
I have had fibro since 2010. I had my first "You don't look sick" the other day. Pffff...so sorry if I don't look like a sea hag when I leave my home.

Thanks for replying. Sorry to hear about your struggles.

My gp got the report from the rheumatologist and it says I have fibro, seronegative arthritis (specific kind to still be determined) and my gp has diagnosed me with anxiety/panic disordef. Ugh, I am only anxious and panicky because every time something acts up I don't know if I'm dying or it is just another one of those things that have no explanation. I guess I have more to go on now rather than 'I don't know why you are like this' but I think they are still lost and I'm demanding answers so that's what they have come up with.

As for parvo, I don't think that has any bearing on my illness but like u said who really knows the long term effects. As for lyme I would love to get tested by igenex but I really don't have the funds plus Canadian doctors won't accept those results or if they do their hands are pretty tied in treating it.

Ugh I'm 24 and the best years of my life are passing by while I rarely leave the house, don't exercise, basically just laying around all day everyday. Struggling under student debt and I haven't even finished my undergrad due to this but only one course to go and the university has found an alternative course online I can take so that will get done. I was on track to be a veterinarian but when it was time to apply for vet school I was already sick.

Sorry kind of got off topic but venting helps me lol but not you unfortunately.

Jumper I have sero-negative arthritis, too. Not a fun disease. Mine is psoriactic arthritis type.

The plaquinel will help slow down the progression of the disease. Ask about taking Leflunomide along with it. It has helped my pains a great deal. You can email me with the envelope icon located on the left under my name for more questions.
