I live in the United States and I feel we have one of the best medical systems in the world. I lived in the Cleveland area for many years and watched famous people and even kings come to be treated in the US. The king of Saudi Arabia came to the Cleveland Clinic to have open heart surgery. He obviously could have gone anywhere in the world for his surgery but he chose the US.

We have the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and many, many teaching hospitals all over the US.

I know there are wonderful hospitals in other countries too but I can only speak for the US here since that is where I live. But I do have a link in Fibro 101 if you want to find teaching hospitals in countries all over the world.

Anyone who doesn't think they are getting the best care needs to start doing their homework and find a good doctor that does believe in fibro, rules out other illnesses, and will work with you. I have doctors like that. I have fantastic medical care but I did put in time getting the right doctors for me. I just had my annual physical with my Internist today. He is thorough, he helps me with fibro, he listens to me, and even when I don't agree with him he respects my opinion and decisions. After all, it is my body. I have a wonderful rapport with him and am so thankful I found him.

We all need doctors like this and they are out there. You just have to start asking others, see if there is a fibromyalgia support group where you could ask who the best doctors for this illness are in your area, and searching the Internet for reviews of doctors in your area. I got a great tip from my hair dresser for a good rheumatologist. I then asked my Internist and he gave me the same name. Even though I had these two people refer me, I still did a search on the Internet and there were great reviews about this there also so I made an appointment and wasn't disappointed. Good Internet sites are healthgrades.com and vitals.com.

We all deserve good doctors and I think most doctors are good. Yes, there are some pitiful doctors, too, and those you should fire. You really need to have confidence in your doctors and have doctors who will listen to you. Remember, you are their boss. You hired them and pay them to help you. They are not a god...even though some think they are. smilewinkgrin

You guys do have one of the best medical systems in the world, although it is quite expensive and not everyone can afford it.

I've lived in the U.S., England, Germany and Japan. I live in Japan now, but Japan is WAY behind when it comes to fibromyalgia. I plan to move back to the U.S. and try to get treatment there in the near future. I don't know much about medical system in England, but Germany is another country I know that has one of the best medical systems.

So, how do you find a fibromyalgia support group in your area? Do you use MeetUp.com or something?

I'm not sure how you would do this in Japan. I would try googling fibromyalgia support groups and then put in your location. Also, here in the USA you might find some in the phone book or even ask the local hospitals if they know of any support groups. That's all I can think of right now. I do hope you get good help for yourself.

As I said, I have a list of teaching hospitals throughout the world in Fibro 101. You might find a teaching hospital near you and they just might be able to help you with Fibro! Teaching hospitals are usually on the cutting edge.

I am just in the process of changing some of my Dr's. I felt like I was not getting supported for my disability. Then my main Dr. Had me in every 2 weeks to check my blood thinners. If my count was off by a small amt. she made me come back. It was over an hr. appointment each time. There was no need for that. The place was millions of dollars in the hole and I really belive she was trying to generate money for the place. I got a new Dr. Now and they have a Coumadin clinic. It's great! It takes me only 10 mins and It doesn't have to be the exact number like my other Dr. Wanted. So this will save me lots of time plus money.

I realize I didn't have to take how she was treating me. It wasnt very nice plus she wanted nothing to do with my disability paper work. So it's not easy changing Dr's with Medicare. They are limited dr's in Alaska taking Medicare. So far I have changed 2 dr's and I now know I made a right choice.

It's good to let people know that there are so much good dr's out there. So if you don't feel satisfied with your Dr. Look for other Dr's that will meet your needs.
