Does gabapentin work well for pain though.

I am almost going be taking the gabapentin medication. I want to know more about this medication. Does anyone here that has taken gabapentin tell me a little about it. What kind of side effect did you get on it. Does it work well to get rid of the pain. I am in a lot of pain so it will be cool if this medication will help me ya. Do you know how long you have to take it for until it starts working though. Anyone can tell me more about it. Thanks.

I did take it for a short time. It did help with the pain. However, I have a very touchy Gastro system. It did cause diarrhea, gas, and bloating. I stopped it because of this. I have some of it left and every once in a while I think about trying it again, though I don't know if I really ever will.

I am on Gabapentin at night to help with both pain and sleep and I have taken one pill during the day at times when I am in pain. It helps with the nerve part of the pain and the skin, but not with my joint pain. It definitely makes me sleepy so I cannot take it if I am going to be out and about. I have not had any other side effects with it at all, but I am not sensitive to medicine like so many other people are. I take 600 mg at night. My mother has also been on this medication for more years than I can remember for her back issues. She has also not had any side effects.

I think it is worth trying as I do not believe it has the same withdrawal symptoms as some of the other Fibro meds.

I was on gabapentin for a short time after surgery. I stopped taking it because it caused weird uncomfortable facial flushing. A lot of people have success with it though, so I agree that it might be worth a try. It was recommended for me by an anesthesia pain team at a research hospital. They seemed to think it was a pretty good drug for post surgical pain.

I was wondering how long it will take for the gabapentin to start helping with pain though. It will be cool if it's not that long though. I really need it to work to lessen my pain ya. Does anyone here know. Thanks.

It worked fairly quickly for me, but we had to get to a high enough dose to get it to work.

I feel really tired after taking the gabetin though. I have only taken it for a little while. Does anyone know if this tiredness will go away later on when I take more gabetin. Thanks. I still would like some energy ya.

If the initial side effects are well tolerated these are two areas to be cautious of:

Patients who have discontinued gabapentin have reported symptoms of anxiety, diaphoresis, irritability, agitation, confusion, tachycardia, catatonia, and status epilepticus.[16–22] The symptoms that have been associated with gabapentin withdrawal tend to mimic some of the same withdrawal symptoms associated with ethanol and benzodiazepine withdrawal, possibly because gabapentin augments GABA levels, as does ethanol and benzodiazepines. These symptoms can take several months to resolve

Gabapentin has a fairly long list of potential side effects but one a small percentage of patients find troubling is rapid weight gain. Patients have reported up to a 35 to 40% weight gain in a years time. While the number of patients experiencing this is moderate the health consequences may call for discontinuing this medication

I have the weight gain I take 1800 mil a day it does help with skin I guess nerve pain and nerupathy but not joint pain or arthritis in my back so I still have to take pain pill

I am getting dry mouth from taking the gabapetin medication though. I really don't want that. It makes me need to drink water all the time ya. I still have dry mouth when I do that. Does anyone here have that from the medication. Will this dry mouth feeling go away if you take the medication for awhile more though. I want to know. Thanks.

I don't think so. Try gum or hard candies to suck on. The tiredness never went away for me.

I was prescribed Gabepentin to sleep so I think it is supposed to make us sleepy. I cannot take it during the day unless I am going to be home (or at least not driving). Since I am usually taking it before bed, I haven't noticed dry mouth being an issue. I would suggest talking to your doctor about other medications. I know for me, I have to try this one for so long before my insurance will cover anything else.

Drinking more water is good for you. Hydrates the muscles for less pain. I would continue with it if it is helping with pain. We have to take the good with the bad. Or the bad with the good...

There is a product called Biotin that helps with dry mouth. I use the mouth gel at night.They also have mouth wash toothpaste.

I am still taking the gabapentin medication even though it makes me tired to do anything. Does this tiredness ever go away. It's hard to not have energy to do anything. Does anyone know. Thanks.
