I acquired a 6.7 x 7.2 x 14.2 mm osteochondral lesion on the posterior lateral femoral condyle in my right knee in a minor auto accident 12/2. Has anyone had any experience with how long it takes for an osteochondral lesion and/or a bone bruise to heal in the knee? The lesion is on the back & outside of the femur where if I have my knee bent, it touches the tibia.
The swelling finally went down about a week and a half ago, so I was able to start partial weight. This last week, I made it until about mid-afternoon each day doing partial weight, so I think I will need another week of partial weight. I am able to hobble okayish on it at home for a few steps here and there to get things done in the evenings. I can put some weight or pressure through the knee now with a small bend in it, but not much more than that, so I know stairs, etc. are still out. I still have my knee elevated at my desk, but I just started working on pulling the stool closer to me so that my knee can start hanging down a little more at a time. My latest instructions from my doctor were to wean off the crutches and resume normal activities as tolerated. I work in an office where we will be doing a lot of odd jobs for a few months. (Making files, filing in floor to ceiling bookcase type cabinets, running reports, moving stacks of files, etc.) What needs to be on my restrictions note so that I have leeway to resume activities as I am able when work wants specific things like, "can lift up to 5lbs"? (My Doctor was trying to get more task related information from work so he knew what it needed to say, but they are not cooperating with him.)
Does anyone have any suggestions for weaning off the crutches when I am ready for the next step? Any suggestions for what the restrictions note should say?
