Has anyone had this surgery? Did you tell the ortho doc that you have fibro?
I am scheduled to have it done in the spring, and no, I did not tell doc. I did not want him to get the "wrong idea" about who I am…
so many doctors make assumptions when they hear a fibro diagnosis.

Yes, I have had this surgery. I have had a full replacements and 3 revisions to it. I just had my last revision, and most painful on June 4th. I've known my surgeon for a very long time.. This was my 14 th knee surgery all together. He knows I have fibro and I had found on this forum a great check list/ special things that you can ask of the Drs or things you may have to make things a little easier. I'm sorry I looked for it but can not find it. I think it is important for the surgeons and the anesthesiologist to know. Sometimes just by not putting the neck back to far will help.

I haven't had that surgery but I did have my colon removed with Fibro and had a speedy, relatively painless recovery. I was Christmas shopping at the mall three days after being released from the hospital and I still had 89 staples in me. I was taking Darvocet to help but that was all.

I never mentioned fibromyalgia to the doctors because back then I didn't know I should! It didn't have anything to do with my colon and it never entered my mind that perhaps my pain would be worse. That's just not the way I think. I was busy thinking about having the surgery and getting out of the hospital and enjoying the holidays.

Try not to worry about Fibro causing more pain. I actually didn't think about it before hand so it really didn't affect me. The surgeon was amazed at how quickly I bounced back. Just think how much better you will feel when you get that knee taken care of.

Sherrine, that is the way I think of it as well. What they don't know will only hurt me (lol).

Dawn, why did you have to have revisions…do you mind me asking? I am hoping for one and done :)

Hi heart,

Not a knee replacement, but i crushed an elbow and had a replacement.

To be honest, in the recovery room ..they had trouble getting my pain under control..kept giving me more and more meds..it took me quite a while to process all that medication...other than that, did ok..

I don't mind at all. I will say majority of knee replacements are wonderful and really can change a persons life .

I unfortunately am not one of them. My implant kept getting loose. It wasn't the Drs fault at all, it was me. My ligaments( mcl I believe) kept loosening. The Dr has tried to make it very tight so it doesn't happen again. The first revision my surgeon replaced the spacer with a bigger one.Then the surgeon replaced the tibia component with a very long post (second revision) finally he replaced the femur component and drilled out my femur to put in another long post. My surgeon has said he hasn't ever seen this before and at this point there is nothing left to do. My implant has already loosened but it is stable at this point.
