Hi! I was curious if anyone has tried cortisone injections for hand pain.? I've had extreme pain in my hands for 4 weeks. I've tried every remedy I could think of with no success. My last resort is an appointment with my rheumy doc today for an injection. I've had arthritis pain but never this extreme. Diagnosed with fibro March 2015

Hi, Jeth, and welcome! Fibromyalgia is not considered an inflammatory illness so cortisone doesn't generally help us. They used to think fibro was inflammatory so they called it fibrositis back then..."itis" meaning inflammation. They changed the name to fibromyalgia..."myalgia" means muscle pain...when they realized it wasn't caused by inflammation.

But, if you have arthritis in your hands, the injection should help you. There are some good rubs that help with the pain and you might try one of those. I use Sombra. Some like Australian Dream. There are others but I can't remember them off hand.

Sherrine, thank you. Yes, I do have arthritis also. Australian Dream has become a must have for me. I didn't think about fibromyalgia not being an inflammatory illness, still learning. Thanks again.

Sherrine is quite correct.

If my memory serves (which we all know it sometimes does not,) people who have had the injections have been in more afterwards. With arthritis, some IBDs, and other illnesses,you can inflammation, but not fibro pain.

I mix aspercreme with regular lotion.

I love to use Salonpas for my arthritis hands.

In have had injections in both hands recently. Inflammation of the "sheath" that runs from thumb towards wrist. Not fibro though. Related to repetious use when I was doing PT for my shoulders. Pulling on the big rubber band to strengthen shoulders.

Kind of funny. Trying to fix one problem created another. But not a fibro thing.
