Barb, I have a pillow top mattress but I still needed more comfort. My back is really bad from fibro and Ankylosing spondylitis so I need a posturpedic mattress for support but also softness because we all have the Princess and the Pea syndrome. 😳
I bought a foam egg crate topper at Walmart and put that on top of the mattress. It helped but still wasn't great.
I was on a trip to Hawaii and one of the hotels had a feather bed topper and it was heaven. I came home and headed to Bed, Bath and Beyond. They had feather bed toppers but you can't wash them so I bought a fiber bed topper that you can wash and it's every bit as good as the feather bed topper. It feels just as soft.
Soooooo...I have my pillow top mattress, then my quilted mattress cover, then my foam egg crate topper, then my fiber bed topper, and finally my sheets. I now have the needed support along with the needed softness. Ahhhhh...just perfect for me!
This isn't an expensive proposition. I have a king size bed but only sleep on one side so I bought a single sized foam egg crate topper and if I recall correctly it was around $30. The single size fiber bed was around $70 when I bought it quite a while back but you can use your 20% off coupon too so that helps. A $100 is cheap for a better night's rest.
By the way, I tried a Memory Foam topper and I was like the person in the commercial they used to have. I sunk in it and was pulling my back muscles to roll over and to get out of bed. Since it was a king size topper, I cut it in half and gave my daughter half for her bed...which she hated and threw away...and I put the other half on the other side of my king size bed. Well, when my dog and cat get on my bed they both want to sleep on the side with the fiber bed on it! 😂 That tells me something. They've got good taste and they're not too spoiled! 😂
