Meds linked to increased dementia risk

The same neurosurgeon posted this on the 15th. He said he has refused to use these meds ever since the vioxx and bextra scandals a decade ago. Turns out he is right about there being problems for some people. As many of you know, NSAIDs will activate mast cells in some mast cell disorder patients. I can get away with the occasional 440 mgs Naprosyn for a headache tho. I only tolerate the gelcapsfor, tho. Fillers must get to me in the hard capsules.Anyways, when nothing is working, a couple days in, I give in and take Naprosyn. I also compromise my principles and use pieces of the flector patch when my jaw gets going.

I have a friend that I've been friends with for 40 years and she has been on Pamelor all of that time. She is now 83 years old and extremely active. It's like she is in her 30's.

And I have been on ibuprofen for 30 years. I did develop an ulcer two times but it healed right away and I'm using the product again. It works like a wonder drug for me and quality of life is an issue for me.

Some people are more sensitive to medications than other people. So many medications have been "linked" to this and that and nothing comes of it. I think it's wise to be informed so I do thank you for sharing this info but if I were taking one of the medications and saw no problems with it, I personally would continue taking it. Pamelor works so well for my friend and she is as sharp mentally as she always has been. And ibuprofen allows me to live a good life with chronic pain.

I do cringe when people refer to pharmaceutical companies as "Big Pharma". It's like they are part of some conspiracy theory. Pharmaceutical companies have created miracle drugs, helped wipe out illnesses like polio, created medications that have extended lives, medications that have cured people, and medications that not only help control illnesses but also give us quality of life.

I'm very thankful for the medications personally. They saved me from possibly contracting polio as a child since the Salk vaccine came out when I was 8 years old. I saw people in iron lungs on the news and plenty of children on crutches and in wheelchairs too. It was rampant.. At 8 years old I was concerned about getting polio. It was a scary time for people and we were so thankful that the pharmaceutical company, along with the scientists who work creating medications and vaccines, developed a way to rid ourselves from this illness.

Antibiotics have helped me throughout the years and the medications I take now help keep diabetes and chronic pain under control, keep my cholesterol and acid reflux under control, keep glaucoma eye pressure in the normal range and even help protect my stomach from ulcers. So I'm thankful for "Big Pharma".

Whenever we put any medication in our bodies there is always a risk. There are side effects to these chemicals since they are making your body react a different way. Some people react differently than others since we are all so different. The medication you have taken for 20 years obviously hasn't caused you Alzheimer's and most likely won't if you haven't shown signs by now. It must have helped you somewhat or you wouldn't have taken it for two decades. I won't take Prilosec because I developed osteoporosis from it but the majority of people don't. If they did, it would be taken off the market. I let members know but I sure don't blame the pharmaceutical companies. This drug helps many and they don't get osteoporosis either!

So, as I said before, I'm glad you gave a heads up. I do not agree there is so me sort of conspiracy going on with the pharmaceutical companies. Members can discuss this with their doctors but, now, do take this to the Alzheimer's forum. I'm sure family members there would be quite interested in your findings.
