Positive ANA marker

Good Morningsmile

My Dr ordered blood work at my last visit. The Nurse called and advised me my ANA marker came back positive. One of the things he was testing for was Rheumatoid Arthritis. Upon doing some research it looks like there could be several things (or nothing at all) causing this. Has anyone had a positive ANA and was it RA or something else?

It is like you said. A positive ana alone is not enough to diagnose anything. Some healthy people have a positive ana and never get any autoimmune disease. Your ana simply means that there is something inflammatory going on. Your doctor should run some further labs to check for ra as well as other inflammatory diseases as well as track your symptoms. If you are not seeing a rheumotologist, you should get in to see one. They are qualified to diagnose and treat inflammatory issues.

I'm always a little nervous when something comes back abnormal in my blood work and I have to wait until Aug to see My primary dr. Trying to do some research so I am prepared when I get there.

I am diagnosed with primary Lupus and secondary Fibromyalgia as my rheumatologist says.

An ANA isn't enough to diagnose something alone. An ANA is just kind of like a place to start when people start having symptoms.

If you are having symptoms along side a positive ANA you should definitely be seeing a Rheumatologist. If you do have an autoimmune disease it's better to start treating it sooner rather than later because a lot of the medicines used to treat autoimmune diseases can take a while to build up in your body.

Thank you Kayva. I am waiting to see my Dr to get a referral to the Rheumatologist.
