Hello, I would appreciate some advice on a sensitive matter.
I was married a few weeks ago and I have not yet been able to have sex with my husband. Pain at his touch is an issue, where sometimes I can enjoy foreplay and other times I cannot. He is very loving and does not continue unless I am enjoying myself, so unfortunately we have rarely gotten far in any of our attempts. On the few occasions that we have reached the point of penetration, it seems that I have vaginismus and I experience extreme pain. (I believe this is partially because I was sexually abused as a child, and partially because the fibromyalgia increases my sensation of pain.) We have been using a hypoallergenic lubricant. I was wondering if anyone would have any advice for me on how to decrease the pain and increase the pleasure with sex.
Thank you in advance.

Hi, LiliannaRose, and welcome! I had some tenderness but nothing like what you are describing. I think you do need to set up an appointment with a board certified gynecologist and discuss this issue with them. I'm sure they have had patients with this type of problem and have things that could help you. I'm not sure if this is a fibromyalgia issue only. I know we have muscle and nerve issues but you could have several things going on to have this difficult of a problem. So please get checked out. It might be a very simple fix for you.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread in the forum. There are links to good info about
fibro and you will learn a lot there.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi Sherrine,
Thank you very much
I will be seeing the gynacologist in a couple weeks regarding the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome anyway, so I will make sure to discuss it then.
God bless

Hi Lilliana Rose. I have the same issue but I've been diagnosed with sjogrens also. Sjogrens can cause these issues also. My gynecologist prescribed be lidocaine ointment to use which has made a big difference. So that might be something to ask your doctor about
.

Hi Purple butterfly, thank you very much. I already know that I do not have Sjogrens', however I believe it is one of the conditions that can be linked to Fibromyalgia, primarily because both conditions involve autonomic nervous system dysfunction (Dysautonomia). I bring this up because you may want to check out treatments for Dysautonomia to help you with your health.
To anyone else out there with similar issues:
I have now been to the gynacologist and been diagnosed with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, for which I need to start doing pelvic floor exercises. The psychologist suspects vaginismus, and I have started using a self-hypnosis CD for vaginismus treatment, which has been highly effective in helping me to relax and to reduce pain. I have also found that having a magnesium bath and my husband doing light massage just beforehand are both very helpful. All the best.
