Steroids Prescription & Fibro

I don't know what dosage you were on, but I have been on seriously high levels of steroids for extended periods due to my UC. The symptoms you are describing do not occur after you are off steroids. They are typical symptoms when you are taking the steroids.

Even if your adrenal system is not back to normal 3 months post steroids (which is highly unusual for a 14 day dose) you would more likely being experiencing adrenal fatigue such as lethargy and joint pain.

Did you do a tapering schedule on the steroids? You may want to check in with your doctor as it sounds like something else may be going on.

Hi again Becky. Okay so you've done steroids more than once then you know the drill. Sounds like you have done a weekly dose pack in the past (since you said you never did a 14 day dose).

It's good that you've gotten the blood work done. Hopefully they check your cortisol levels. Those symptoms don't really sound autoimmune if it makes you feel any better.

As time goes on, and the same medications are prescribed for us again, for me the side effects can become worse each time.

I was tried on PPI's several times over the years for my gerd. They always caused side effects, but I was still able to give them a good try. This last time I was prescribed one, one dose caused the same side effects but they were much more extreme. I will not try another and try to stick to my healthy diet.

Maybe some prescription meds can become toxic to our bodies?

Becky, bronchitis, I had that years ago when I lived in an apartment building with ventilation that was so bad, I lived with secondhand smoke on a daily basis. My apartment reeked of it.

Secondly, there is the following to consider.

I have a particulate matter meter and the numbers were fine during the last few years. That's how long we have lived here. I rarely get ill with cold symptoms and I came down last November with a horrible cough, sore throat, and a stuffy/runny nose. i ended up having to go to urgent care.

I had not plugged in my particulate matter meter for several months and after seeing the urgent care doctor, I decided to do so. For the next several days the number on my meter was staggering. There is an asphalt plant located six miles from my home and our interstate was being widened. So the plant was busy. But the plant had to be very busy for the preceding months also because the interstate had been worked on for months....
Now the interstate is done and the number has been low most of the time.

So what I am saying is, you might want to consider purchasing a particulate matter meter and see if you keep your windows closed during the high readings if it might help you. This has helped me. And I would suggest that you turn on the option in your car that recirulates the inside air and doesn't let in the car exhaust around you.

But first before you go to that expense, if you are not aware of any polluters in your area, google and find out if you have an asphalt plant or a gas plant or a coal plant. When I have mentioned the plant to friends, most are not aware of its presence.

All of these are tests to see if you can feel better and perhaps stay off of the medications. I was put on Flonase back in November. It helped but I experienced side effects after a while. So I now take nothing for my allergy issues. I just use avoidence when necessary.

Ask smokers to go outside. Secondhand smoke from cigarettes, pipes and cigars contains over 200 known carcinogenic chemicals, endangering your health. Test for radon, a colorless, odorless gas linked to lung cancer. It can get trapped under your home during construction and may leak into your air system over time. Radon testing kits are a quick and cheap way to determine if you are at risk.

Avoid storing paints, adhesives, solvents, and other harsh chemicals in your house. If you must have them, keep them in a detached garage or shed. Avoid using cookware with nonstick coating, as these pots and pans can release toxins into the air when heated.

Avoid powders, whether cleansing scrubs, talcum or other personal care powders — these can be problematic as they float and linger in the air after each use. Many powders are allergens due to their tiny size, and can cause respiratory problems.

You're right about the Mercola information, Sherrine. Yes, I will be more careful.

When it comes to the pans, I guess the nonsticks are not suppose to be used on high heat. I just purchased some Circulon cookware from Amazon. I love them. They're suppose to be healthier to cook with because they're hard adonized. But even with these, I can't use high heat, but I can use medium high.
