Does anyone take Cymbalta? Has it helped? I'm going to start taking it for both Fibro and for Anxiety. I just wondered if it really could make me feel better.

Hi Lendi, I take Cymbalta. It has definitely helped the Fibro. I noticed a difference within a few days. I am on 30mg. I was put on it for Fibro and was taking Lexapro for anxiety (an SSRI). I came off the Lexapro and am using the Cymbalta for both Fibro and anxiety.
It takes time to get adjusted to so if you have some adverse effects in the beginning I urge you to try and stick with it. Have you ever been on any other drugs in this class before? If so let me know which one(s) and I can try to tell you what the difference was for me specifically between an SSRI and the Cymbalta. Feel free to ask me any specific questions you may have about
it.

My doctor tried me on Cymbalta for a few months to see if it would help reduce my pain. It didn't and it made me feel numb.

I've taken SSRI's before, celexa, lexapro and one other that I don't remember the name of as I only took it for a month. They made me more quiet and withdrawn. I just couldn't think of anything to say about
most of the time. When I went off of them my mom said "There's my girl back."

Hi Lendi. Cymbalta is different from the SSRI's because it has 2 neurotransmitters that it deals with (serotonin and norepinephrine). Whereas the SSRI's only work with the serotonin levels. The norepinephrine gives me more energy than the serotonin alone did. The first week was really hard because it made me restless and I had total insomnia. I also was hyper alert
and aware. I felt like I had adrenaline 24/7. This was a big change from from the Lexapro which made me lethargic. It felt so good to not have fatigue, but it was the other extreme until I adjusted.
However, I'm told everyone responds different to it. When I looked around on-line quite a few people reacted to it the same as me. Some though it made sleepy. This drug was much harder for me to adjust to than an SSRI, but I stuck with it because it also cut my muscle fatigue/aches in half.

Thank you, Rocker Girl both for the answer and the encouragement. So far I haven't actually felt any difference so I assume that's a good thing, sort of. With some more time it might work great but at least I'm not having and side effects.

Sounds like you are tolerating it pretty good without side effects. Hopefully you'll get some relief from it soon! What dosage did your doctor start you at?

I'm taking 30 mg but the plans are to ramp up to 60mg. Now, I may be having a problem. I get jittery and fidgety, almost anxious and then sleepy. I'm going to quit for a few days because my BP med was raised so I'm not positive which may be causing the issue or neither.

I started at 30mg with plans to also ramp me up to 60mg. Due to the fact that it is working and has given me some restless side effects we are keeping me at 30mg. I have the jittery, fidgety thing too. It was worse in the beginning, but I still have it to a certain extent. I think it has to do with all the energy the norepinephrine transmitter is releasing. Almost an adrenaline effect. It sometimes feels like an anxious feeling to me, but I'm not sure if it really is or not. I think it just appears that way due to the way my body is reacting to it. The jury is still out for me whether it is helping anxiety or not.
So I have the energy...almost too much now. I'm curious to see if your BP meds are having an effect on you also. It's good to eliminate one to see. You haven't been on the Cymbalta long so I don't think you will get any withdrawal (we are supposed to wean off it slowly).
Let me know what happens.

Thanks Rockergirl. So far no energy which was one thing I really hoped for. I have fibro primarily fatigue, and a sleep disorder so I may never feel energetic, which makes me really sad. It makes me sleepy instead so I take it at night.
Let me know if things change for you, please. I'll update to if I notice something different.

I've been on 39 mg Cymbalta since 2008. When I was tried on 60 mg it was not good. I take a muscle relaxant Baclofen and between the two my fibromyalgia is tolerable. I am in the process of selling my house in the north to move to Florida. I was there Jan and Feb and I felt SO much better.
It's trial and error to see what works.

Hallahan, good luck with the move. I'm happy you are able to do something that helps you feel better.
It's funny how weather can help or hinder. If it's cold I get stiff. If it's hot my muscles (and brain) don't work. I agree with the trial and error. Our bodies are all so different in how they react. So far I haven't found a benefit to Cymbalta except that I sleep better sometimes.

Has anyone had problems with their eyes while on Cymbalta? The rheumatologist wants me to try Cymbalta, but when I asked her about
side effects she said it might make you tired. Take it at bedtime. When I looked at the side effects it said visual problems: eye pain, changes in vision, swelling or redness in or around the eye. I am already dealing with problems with eye pain, increased pressure in my eyes and blurriness. I don't need more problems.

Snookie, I can't give you a positive answer because it could have been from a different DD. But, my head hurt everyday for over 3 wks. I think it was like mini migraines but it could have been the med. They weren't big, big headaches but there and around my eyes which is where they were when I used to get really bad migraines. My eyeball seemed to ache at times and I had some "zingers" go through them.
But, I ran a temp off and own (no true SX except for fatigue and the headache.) So in this case I have to say maybe. Sorry not a lot of help.
I no longer take cymbalta because I'm one of those that was very sleepy and that was at 30 mg. I can say I wasn't nearly as restless at night which was nice, but then I couldn't really wake up during the day, either.
